For Tea Party members: Would you prefer a VAT or national sales tax to an income tax?
It doesn't punish earning higher wages only excessive levels of consumption. Though, it is regressive because it taxes all income levels at the same rate unless lower income individuals are given government aid.
If you want no taxes then you essentially want no government.
This is a question, I'm not advocating for either.

You should think before posting. If Obummer and Nancy put a VAT in effect, do you really believe the regular income tax will stop. That is what Parliament told the people in the United Kingdom and now they pay both.
The flat tax is the best way which is why we will never see it. Because congress will have to pay their fair share.

I want a FLAT TAX. A tax plan that is SIMPLE and FAIR to all, and costs little to administer. Think about the costs of administrating a VAT. The costs of administrating and policing the current system. How much do you pay to have your taxes done? or are you lucky enough to make little and so you get your taxes done for free. (paid for by ME, a taxpayer. the same taxpayer that had to pay to get those taxes done because I could not figure them out) Todays tax code is much too complex.

I would support a flat tax for everyone... say 18%. And a VAT tax? Hmmm... I'm not sure. It would depend on how much and of course if there was a VAT tax then there must not be an income tax. too.

Value added tax, that wouldn't punish productivity. But I'd much prefer a flat income tax over anything.

I would prefer smaller government, less spending, competent spending where spending is, pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq as quickly as we can in a manner that makes sure the nations are safe, then eliminate the income tax and replace it with nothing at all.

A national sales tax in lieu of an income tax. Since a sales tax is regressive, low income people would receive a monthly rebate check.

You missed option #3, the fair tax. About 40% of workers don't pay income tax. The liberal idea of letting some "fat cat" pay my share out of a miguided excuse of "social justice" doesn't work. We CANNOT have anymore defict spending. A surplus shouldn't be celebrated, it should be expected.

I would prefer a flat income tax set at a certain percentage for EVERYBODY and not VAT.
I want to be as fair as possible. Everybody pays the same percentage, no matter what we're talking about.
And we are all eligible to participate in any government program we choose, regardless of income, sex, skin color, etc.
Now that's fair!

Just a national sales tax. Period. It's none of anyone's business how much we make each year. That is a private matter.
