I want to put videos from my video camera onto my computer so i can then edit it and put it on youtube. when i connect the camera to the computer with and try to find the video in "my computer" it only has images. i dont know if when i record a video on the camera if it goes to the tape or the sd card. I installed the cd with the cameras editing software but when i go into it, it doesnt say there is a camera connected.
I dont know if it helps but the camera is a "Panasonic NV-GS150"

You have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….
Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, Firewire to usb will not work to download video. You might end up with only sound or only video. Your PC might not have a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, you need to buy a firewire cord too. Your camcorder came with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode. If you have a laptop, make sure your laptop has an empty bay for a card.
The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection.
The sd card and usb cord are for your stills.

1- Camera records on cassette! Download video using USB and software that came with your camera. 2- Camera records on SD card! Insert SD in your computer and copy it to your computer hard drive.

You need to use FireWire/1394 to transfer video (which is stored on the MiniDV tape). The USB connection is only appropriate for images (which are stored on the SD card).
If your computer doesn't have a FireWire port, you can add them via PCI expansion port:

The manual recommends connecting the camera while the computer is turned off.

Are you sure they're all pictures? After you transfer them, right click on one at a time and check properties. It'll tell you which ones are pics and which are vids. I had the same prob when I started uploading files from camera to PC.

I had the same problem and the way I fixed it was to take the memory card and plug it into the computer with a usb adapter and then change it to quick time.
