Why do so many people say, "I borrowed them the money" instead of "I lent (or loaned) them the money"?

Update:

I was raised in Ohio and I live in Illinois now. I watch alot of court tv and I also heard someone say it on Dr. Phil today.

Update 2:

It's just irritating to me.

It's no different than than the functionally illiterate people who think it's cool to say Axe instead of ASK

    and Nuculer instead of NUCLEAR.

ITs ignorance doing the talking. Some people don't care how stupid they come across to others. What this tells us is that some classes of people do not care about education or expressing themselves in a way that earns respect. Instead, they speak so smart people can laugh.

Poor Education! I read letters from the schools all the time, and quite frankly, I am appalled at the lack of grammar, poor usage, and even spelling errors present in the letters to parents. My wife's 9 year old has a teacher that cannot write a proper sentence to save her life. Instead, we spend the time to teach her how to write properly. We also encourage her to read any book she wishes, even if it seems "too mature" for her. We just make sure that we read it first and explain things to her so that her young mind can understand that mature content. She reads at a 9th grade level and is entering the 4th grade in the fall. Frighteningly, her school library has no books for her reading level. She is forced to take "advanced reader" tests that cover books with no more than 4 sentenes on each page and cartoon pictures of everything. I am constantly appalled by the low level of education she receives in public schools. Fortunately, we have time to teach her ourselves. It took almost an entire year to convince her elementary school to allow her to bring books from home so that she can read quietly after she has finished her lessons rather than disrupt the other students who are not finished. The teacher was upset that she "wasn't paying attention" when, in fact, she merely finished her work before the others. At that, I must apologize for my rant, but it is all true. People just do not receive a proper education any longer.

Because the average IQ of an American college graduate- YES, THAT'S RIGHT, A COLLEGE GRADUATE- is 104. We are an uneducated, ignorant society with about 75% of our population being unable to properly speak and write his/her NATIVE LANGUAGE. ENGLISH IS OUR NATIVE LANGUAGE AND 75% OF AMERICANS FAIL STANDARDIZED ENGLISH TESTS. We're not talking about complex grammar or sentence structure- We're talking about parts of speech and simple vocabulary. It is estimated that the average American adult reads English at a sixth grade level. SIXTH GRADE. YOU READ BABYSITTER CLUB AND R.L. STINE BOOKS IN SIXTH GRADE. And the problem is, no one cares. Have you ever seen a person on television or in real life answer a question or say something that is totally incorrect and stupid? 99 times out of a hundred, they laugh. They think it's funny that they are an imbecile. To quote Chris Rock, "They loooooooove not knowin'".And then, to top it all off, we wonder how it happened that most of the industrialized world has long since passed us by as countries like China, Japan and Korea completely eclipse us in science and technology. 75% of us can't even speak our native language- how in the hell are we supposed to excel in astrophysics? Until we make education a priority in this country, we will continue to sink deeper and deeper into oblivion.

You might want to start by understanding the education level and economic status of the people you are talking to. Some are not as savvy with the English conjugates as you are.... Just nod and smile... you'll find that more people than you think speak this way.....

As far as books that have movies, the literature aren't limited to a set timeframe and thus can go into much more depth a feature span movie could. Sometimes movies conclude very different from the book

The average American reads at a 6th grade level so why would speech patterns be any different

People say this out of ignorance. The correct way to say it is "I loaned them money."
