What can be done about car stereo noise pollution?

I live in an area where there are a lot of people who are inconsiderate. About half the population has a loud car stereo, and they use them at all hours of day and night. I have to sleep some time. I myself have invested in car stereo, but I go for sound quality not nessesarily quantity and am considerate of other people. Have any of you faced this sort of sitation and came up with creative means of dealing with these inconsiderate douchebags? I am curious because I would like to curb this, but don't want to go to jail for doing something that goes out of bounds...Thanks for your input.

    1. See if there is a noise ordinance where you live.

    2. IF so, try to get police enforcement by complaining, ESPECIALLY late at night.

OR IF NOT then suggest that a noise ordinace would be a good idea to the local governing body.

    I know what you mean.

When I am in town, (I live out of town,) I see some, usually compact, cars with the volume so high the car almost bounces while sitting still at the stoplights. AND, for some reason, they almost always have their windows down, like they assume you WANT to hear their "music."

I have a solution, (that I can't use if cops are around,) on one of my vehicles with a big 454 engine.

I have "cutouts" ahead of the mufflers that allow exhaust to exit THERE, when open, for slightly more power when off-road.

I open the cutouts and rev the engine quickly, (roars good as it winds up,) and it pops REAL good, (almost sounds like automatic gunfire,) when it "backs down" after I release the throttle.

(It actually scared ONE so bad, he "jumped" the stop light and got his car "totalled" by a truck!! Too bad, So sad. He ALSO got a ticket for "running" the stop light!)
