Rock and Pop: Is the way you look reflective of what type of music you listen to?

I really love indie music and I feel like I look like someone who would. I have a very unique sense of style, I don't wear Hollister or Abercrobie. Just colorful vintage things others probably wouldn't wear. It kind of matches my very ecclectic taste in music.

On the other hand, I have a metalhead friend who wears Hollister, Abercrombie, and American Eagle. She has a very mainstream style that doesn't fit her taste in music at all.

Update:

Excuse me, I wasn't stereotyping anything. It was a simple question "is the way you look indicative of what type of music you listen to?" I didn't say, all metalheads wear black. And all hipsters shop at Urban Outfitters. I wasn't stereotying anything. Kay thanks.

Update 2:

Indie doesn't have an assigned style. I didn't say that. I said that I look like someone who would listen to indie. I love how people on here read between lines so much that they offend themselves.

Update 3:

Also, I'm no poser. My style and my taste in music are two different parts of my life. I don't dress like a hipster for the sake of being different. I dress according to the style of clothes I like. My sense of style was not built upon the music I listen to. I never even said that. I said it reflects it, which does not mean I'm dressing the part of some indie rocker. Jesus, I'm forever on the defense from you all today.

Update 4:

By coincidence not purpose, my sense of style happens to be ecclectic, as does my sense of music. I really don't appreciate being called a poser, because I am not one.

    Uhhhhhhhhh......

    not even remotely.

I am , and pretty much always have been hugely into Heavy Metal. And back in the late 80s, early 90s, i did the whole black jeans, duster, band t-shirt, boots, etc... or during warm weather had made my denim band "cut" with all my favorite patches and logos. (plus my hair went to my butt, and the amount and variety of facial hair varied weekly)

    Fast forward nearly 20 years........

Today I spend more time in suits and ties than not. My hair is kept military short ( too many cowlicks to be worth styling), no facial hair, and all the piercings are gone. When I am not in formal clothing, I favor carpenter or cargo style pants and shorts, Nike Air footwear and my favorite shirts are all football and soccer jerseys. The only Band shirts in my collection at all are a variety of Grateful Dead Tie-Dyes.

I still go to as many Metal and Hardcore shows as possible, ( and many other genres of music) but never feel the need to dress like the flock, as it were. Sorry, but I listen to Metal, which is all about being yourself..... so why be a lemming and dress like every other person there? I know who and what I am, and am more than secure enough to not give a crap what any "Trve Kvlt" dinks think. Say it to my face at the show, and after you pick yourself off the ground I'll buy ya a beer, ya know?

Ummm to a point I do. I mean, my favorite kind of music is metal and I do wear band tees (I'm wearing my Pantera shirt right now), studded belts and things like that. I don't go way over the top though although if I had the freedom to I probably would. My parents still have a lot of control over the way I look so maybe things will get a little scary when they don't, I don't know haha

By the way, I just asked a question about an indie band I'm really loving lately (hint, hint) =P

Oh and Pi Chart, don't talk about someone you don't know because then it just makes you sound like a judgmental a**.

Well, I like quite a large range of music from jazz to rock to R&B...Country, blues, opera, indie etc..... (you get the point). I have quite unique style of clothing. I guess that doesn't really prove much of a point! But I do think that for many people, the way you look is reflective of the type of music you listen to or like. Hope this helps!

I'm pretty much always in Scrubs. At work, at home. They are the most comfortable clothing ever. Every so often when I wear real clothes you could say that I'm most likely a rocker or indie.... But usually it's only my band tees that give me away to my favorite genres.

Umm...I didn't know Inide had a style. I listen to Indie Rock, Folk Rock/Singer Songwritter, and Alternative Rock. I don't really think there is a stereotype of clothes I should wear.

Edit: My point is that there is not a certain style of clothes that would make people think I listen to the type of music I listen to.

Just like my taste in music, my style of clothing is versatile. That's about all I can say.

    You're not a hipster, you're a hipSTAR girlfriend!

My band shirts are really the only part of my wardrobe that reflects my taste in music. That being said, I've been on an African tribal kick lately, so...

My favorites are rock and classical music. I wear t-shirts, jeans, skirts, dresses, and usually sandals. I don't know if it fits or not but it's what I like.

well, people who play music view music differently then people who just enjoy it. the music you listen to is associated with fashions. its actually run by the marketing business

I look like the biggest teenie bopper in the world.
