Why aren't celebrities doing anything to help with the oil spill?

When the earthquake struck Haiti everybody swarmed to help. But now that thousands of animals are going to die, and now that some people (in America) can no longer work celebrities don't seem to care. All they say is that it is sad that the animals are going to die and they say nothing more. So why are no celebrities even trying to help with the oil spill.

Update:

They can donate money. They can donate bottles of soap, they can volunteer and help out with the animals which will get people more interested. But they are doing nothing.

this is man made disaster and alot of people including stars feel BP with there trillians of dollars should clean up the mess. but thats not to say stars are not helping. Robert Redford, Kevin Costner, a director James Cameron and those are the only ones i've heard of recent. But im sure there are others as well. Sometimes they dont'always come out and flash there name they do it in privacy. I agree with helping the poor animals. they have no one to help them. its sad for the people down there but they can speak and get help and do things the animals are left to there own devices.

I agree, and I think it has to do with the fact that when Haiti happened, it was the celebrity "off-season". Now that the summer blockbusters are coming out and that people are doing tours, they have all the publicity they need.

They finally get the chance to flaunt themselves with the paps and be camera whores without being criticized and they do nothing.

Uhhh wow. The answers to this question are hideously ridiculous. Okay let's say that in your demented world that celebrities did donate (Let's pretend that there is actually a main organization to donate to, because there ISN'T) to clean up this soil spill. Do you not read the news? They just tried cleaning it up with some new tactic, and it FAILED. MISERABLY. In your additional details you say they could donate soap. SERIOUSLY Do you think you can just pour POISONOUS soap into water and it'll just absorb all of the oil and then jump out of the water and dispose of itself? The soap would pollute the water as well, and kill animals as well.

How is an unauthorized, untrained celebrity supposed to like, jump in the water and save dolphins? Wtf..

And then there is always the impending question. Why haven't you donated yourself?

Everyone is always so quick to point the finger.

I know personally that I myself do everything within my power to save our environment and our animals, by doing anything I can, even taking bugs outside at like 2 or 3 in the morning when I see them. I know that people like Al Gore would help, and I just don't appreciate how people are so quick to slander and gather around and talk about the problem, rather than exploring about it, or doing something about it.

James Cameron the director from Titanic and Avatar offered and was initially turned down. his specialty is deep underwater work which he has a lot of experience with as well as access to any number of deep water ROV's. last i heard he was meeting with a commision and offering again.

i'm thinking they should take that lindsey lohan character and get her to help clean up animals just because she needs to learn what real life is about.

Unless they are super heroes and can swim down 1 mile and clamp off the leak with their bare hands all they will be able to do is lip service. After all celebrities are just people just like you and me

Because the celebrities aren't qualified vets, so they can't take care of the animals that need oil cleaned off them and need special treatment.

The experts can't fix the problem. What makes you think a celebrity would do any good?

because they are stuck up assholes who only care about themselves.
