My doctor told me to steer clear of electric blankets during pregnancy. There is no study to prove conclusively that electric blanket usage is associated with pregnancy problems, but in my opinion it's better to be safe than sorry. What to Expect While You're Expecting says the same thing on the subject as my doctor. I haven't found anything about electromagnetic waves, but the risk of elevated temperature alone is enough to keep me away from it. Same thing goes for heating pads. Also, I live in Texas and it's already HOT here, so there's no need for anything but air conditioning in my neck of the woods. The section on cell phone usage during pregnancy in What to Expect While You're Expecting kind of addresses the radiation concern saying, "Whether or not cell phones and the radiation they emit pose a danger to those who use them is controversial. However, even the theoretical risks seem to be limited to the user- no link to miscarriage or birth defects has been suggested." Pretty much I'd stay away from the electric blanket for the risk that you already mentioned, because it's so easy to overheat yourself and that's bad during any stage of pregnancy. Congrats on your pregnancy!

I suppose as long as you do not get to hot or start sweating it would be fine as long as your not in your 1st trimester cause it is the most important/sensitive time of development . My dr. told me not to use one or to get in my jacuzzi tub early in my pregnancy due to increased risk of the fetus overheating.

perfectly safe, you will be able to tell if it is too warm, you get hot so easy in prgenancy that if you get too warm you will take it right off
