Do people agree with the people that think Israel should be returned to "the Palestinians"?

The entire area WAS known as Transjordan, under the Ottoman Empire (Current day Turkey). The British came in and took control, and under authorization of the League of Nations passed the "British Mandate for Palestine" in 1922.

This split the territory east and west of the Jordan River. Under the mandate, West Palestine (current Israel) was intended as a national home for the JEWISH PEOPLE, and East Palestine was under the Hashemite family from Hijaz (current day Jordan), for the Muslims. This lasted until British rule was ended in favor or self governance in 1948 by the establishment of Israel.

And if you want to talk about who owned what in "ancient" history, the area was Jewish and Christian BEFORE ISLAM WAS EVEN CREATED in 620AD.

At what point did "the Jews" steal ANYTHING from the Islamic "Palestinians"?

Update:

@Robert K

The land was set up to be the homeland of the Jewish people in 1922 by the League of Nations...it wasn't a post WWII thing. Post-WWII just changed the name of the already established area.

1st - , ISRAEL ALREADY GRANTED THAT WISH to the few Palestinians who wanted their land back.

You asked a good question, but I just hope you read everyone's answers and look into the history of Israel and Palestine.

At one point, Israel has offered to let the Palestinians return and become Israeli citizens. Some did return, while others refused, only to stigmatize the Palestinians who accepted dual citizenship.

What about the "right of return" of the Jews to Yemen, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Quartar, Syria, and Lebanon?

The Jews were expelled. They took the home of "unwanted land". The only reason the Palestinians cry about "loosing their land" is because they are the racists who don't want Jewish neighbors.

I think sharing is more realistic, but it should certainly entail the return of the 4.5 million refugees.

Palestine west of the Jordan was meant to be both a Jewish homeland (not state) and a state for Palestinians, as per the Balfour Declaration. The 1939 White Paper was the formalised plan for an independent Palestine by 1949, jointly run by Palestinian Arabs and Jews.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Paper_of_1939

During WW II moderate Zionism seeking a homeland within Palestine transformed into extremist Zionism seeking Palestine as a Jewish state. That led to heightened tensions, terrorism (Irgun, Lehi), and a situation that spun out of control, especially with a flooding in of illegal Jewish immigrants after the war.

The unitary state plan sank, partition could not be agreed upon, and full scale war broke out at the end of the Mandate. Israel won that war, ethnically cleansing 80% of Palestinians. They are still refugees, prevented from returning by Israel. That is the cause of on/off conflicts ever since.

Hence any solution must entail the return of the refugees, but it's unrealistic to try to undo the creation of Israel. A two-state solution may work in the medium term, but I still think the long term solution will have a peacefully intermixed Israel/Palestine as it should have been.

Judaism is the oldest of the Western religions... including Islam. Islam is birthed from Judaism... as an alternative set of beliefs.

I think that land should not belong to people. Land is not something to be owned. But property is everything.

If anything, Israel should be granted to the eldest of the traditions: Judaism. And for that: only its monuments and holy cites. The Jewish people have suffered for centuries to have the right to observe as they please. The Muslims are their present day Nazis... though enemies before Hitler.

The Muslims seek to withold their holy lands from the Jewish: as the Jewish do the Muslims.

Tolerance is no option for these extreme and pious observers. However, Judaism has shown more tolerance for the other religions of the world while Islam shows no tolerance for any others.

Jews never stole anything. It was never any one person's property... Gaza... but in the interest of fairness: those who observed there first should maintain the right to do so.

  • Yeah, Jews and Muslims lived there in peace for many many years before European Zionists began flooding in. In fact, at the time, the Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem sent the British government a letter pleading them to stop the influx of European Jews into the area, because they were destabilizing the long standing peace between Jews and Muslims who had lived there for hundred of years prior. Facts are facts. The European Jews should go back to Europe (and the other Jews from other countries should return to their respective countries). The difference is that the European Jews came from other countries, and their ancestry for hundreds of years resides in those countries. For the Palestinians, their ancestry for the last few hundreds of years resides in Palestine. Even though this is not a practical option considering world politics, this is the most just.

  • Let's put it to you in a way you might relate to:

Native Americans were here in this nation long before anyone came along. They occupied this land, Canada, and the Aztecs had areas "south of the border". And then along comes the white people, and they take over where you have lived for years. They just come and say "We'll live here", and then "We need more land, so move". And now, Native Americans are confined to some "reservations", which lose land when the white man needs more room.

This is the exact conflict. I don't care who occupied it in ancient civilization. The fact is that the Muslim people were living in the land, and then people came and kicked them out of their homes and took over. And they continue to do it.

Do you realize how this is done? The Israeli military goes from house to house, telling the Palestinian people to get the hell out of their homes. Pack up what you want and get out. And then an Israeli family moves into the house. No one buys the house. No one rents it. These people are having their homes and property ripped away from them. Imagine someone walking into your home and telling you to get out so someone else can live there. Better yet - imagine someone coming up and taking your computer so they can use it, and keep it. That is called stealing in this nation. It is there, too. But the Israeli government covers it up and excuses it. It is sickening. Displacing people and making them homeless because the Israelis want more room. In this nation, you need more room, you pay for and then build on the land. It doesn't happen there.

My problem is not with the entire conflict. My issue is with how things are done, and no one wants to address this. You can't steal something from someone because you want it. That is not right. No matter who occupied it in ancient civilization. They bought the land, and they paid for the home. And then it gets stolen from them. How in the hell do you expect to live like that?

Much of the land currently occupied by Israel was purchased by people of Jewish decent.

Some didn't like them as legitimate neighbors.

Murders occurred and the Israelis defended themselves.

Israel Never was a Palestinian homeland. Palestinians lived there, but none of their neighbors wanted to have Them in their territory either. Obviously they still don't.

On many occasions Israel has allowed Palestinians to live among them but violence against Israelis always erupts.

Israel should stay where they are and defend themselves just like any other nation on earth.

in the adventure that your son converts to christianity he won't lose his Israeli citizenship or could desire to bypass away Israel. The regulation of return isn't particular purely to those who practice judaism, a christian or each and every individual of any relegion somewhat can immigrate to Israel for the duration of the regulation of return the only perquisity is they be jewish or descended from jews and your son nonetheless suits that requirement whether he converts to christianity. Your son won't could desire to make any enormous differences in his existence whilst and if he converts.

No, but Palestine should be divided between all the Palestinians including Jewish ones.

Dude this people are all the same people, separated by freaking religious.

What is, is. It is not going to change and the Israelis are not going anywhere.

The history of the region makes no difference to that reality.

As to who controls that land, in the long view....I do not care. That is not my fight, and is not my problem. I do think however that Israel has been a friend to the United States (while other nations in that region have been anything but)...and in that we should support our friends (not our enemies).
