Unable to access Microsoft - ONLY Microsoft?

I had to reinstall Windows XP (SP 2, IE 6) and everything seems to work fine, but I can't access ANY Microsoft site. I can access just about everything else on the web. I want to install a later version of IE and SP3, but every time I try to navigate to Microsoft - either directly or through a link - I get the famous "IE cannot display this web page."

The security is as high as it can go on IE6, and as I said, everything else I've tried to access on the net seems to work - it just balks at Microsoft URL's.

My product is legal and registered, so that should not be the issue.

I CAN access Hotmail and MSN.

Any suggestions?

Update:

It's a new install, and I don't thin a virus is the likely culprit.

Try going to Symantec, McAfee, Trend Micro, or any other anti-virus website.

I have heard of some viruses not being totally obvious and blocking access to Microsoft and anti-virus sites only to prevent the user from downloading security updates and virus fixes.
