What should the USA do if a nation attacked a US warship in international waters, with no Americans killed?

That nation would be screwed. The attack itself would be responded to... meaning if a plane shot at the boat that plane would cease to exist. Then the politicians would decide whether or not to go to war (which would also depend on what the nation responded to the incident as well), and in this day and age where most politicians lack guts, spines, and b@lls, that probably wouldn't happen.
