A couple of off the beaten path hockey questions?

1. In the Pennsylvania House of Representatives a bill has been introduced aimed at enhancing concussion management in youth sports. At the heart of the bill measures have been laid out to protect interscholastic athletes from grades 7 to 12 restricting those young athletes who are suspected of having sustained a concussion or head injury until they have received written clearance from a licensed health professional to return to play. To date, PA teams representing MLB, NFL, NBA and the NHL have all chosen to support this bill save one, the Pittsburgh Penguins.

My question: what do you think the reasoning behind the Pens lack of support on this measure may be?

2. In recent weeks The Ohio State University has reached a deal to take over the management of non-sporting events at Columbus' Nationwide Arena, relieving the Blue Jackets of an estimated $1 million in operating costs.

My question: do you think this is just an honest effort to right the financial ship or should we expect to see more dramatic changes for the franchise in the not too distant future?

1 the only bad part about bills like this is the amount of time that one would stand to loose out of their playing season when they get a concussion after like the second or third time you get one you are out for most of the season and concussions come easy i had one in highschool and one as an adult from sports and i didnt even play them and any real level...

    2. I think that this was dont an a show of good faith in rick nash.. lets face it the man is the only reason they are anything and with the right support they could be a very dangers team i think we will see this trend contunie until they can stand on their own

    1) If the Leafs were playing: $1000 If the Leafs were NOT playing: $500 2) No, but I will if the Leafs ever make it! (I know, thats a bit far fetched) 3) My favourite team in the Western Conference are the Oilers, but my favourite team on the West coast are the Kings 4) Bruins. But it will be close. 5) No. A couple years ago I decided to stop making New Years resolutions. Haven't made one since. 6) Leafs. I predicted at the start of the season them to finish 7th, and they're covering around there right now. BQ: A) Hockey game and then study for exams B) I got one also! Looks like they handed out the badges again today, because it seems a bunch of new people have gotten them.

    1) What ever reason there is for their non-conformity, I hope its a good one. With players like Pronger inspiring other youths' to play dirty, one cannot be too careful about their health.

    2) I don't expect anything drastic to happen in the near future. This is just a common sense move to improve the bottom line. The other teams are probably looking to cut frivolous costs in their arena deals too, but many may not be able too. I wouldn't read too much into this for the moment. By itself, it may or may not be indicative of a trend.

    1. Maybe they have had too many shots to the head. Actually this is probably an oversight and will be rectified when the Stanley Cup Playoffs are over.

    2. It seems like a good idea but will the Blue Jackets be bumped from the rink for a Justin Bieber Mylie Cyrus concert?

    1) Maybe their in-house doctor (and the team itself) does not want to be held liable if a concussed player gets hurt. Avoiding potential lawsuits.

    2) Meh, I do not make too much of it. The Bolts are always broke as hobos, so the city, cut them a massive break on their property taxes. That deal broke years ago, and they are still around :)
