Medical question- for nurses and or Dr.s only?

Think I broke a few ribs the other day- pain and heavy bruising. No sweat as I am an engineer and combat vet. so yesterday I was on a ladder- 12 foot and rurned and hear/ felt a pop. After heavy pain- did not pee blood, spit or poop blood. Went to er last night- ice pack and 3 exrays. waited 5 hours and had to leave to leave and get my kids to bed. did not see xrays but paid bill and all that. Took today off to relax- fell better. question is- how do i know if broken or need to take more time off? This Hospital is not responding to my calls and want me to come back- more money i guess? Help me?

Update:

Also, ribs are bruised but nothing swollen or sticking out, hard to breath but ....painful a bit - but can take deep breaths. age is 42 if that helps. If i were 20 I'd have no worries.

you will know it's broken once you talk to the doc @ the hospital that read your xrays;; how you know when you can return to work is by asking the doc who read your xrays; the hospital won't respond to your calls if they've already told you to come back after they read your xrays..what don't you get??? & if it was an emergency, why didn't you have someone else take care of your kids..family, friends, or even the doc who read your xrays...seriously....
