I have what seems to be some kind of synthetic horsehair streaming out of my exhaust pipe , can anyone tell me what it is and what its for?

my guess is there is a cheap glass pack muffler on the car, and the exhaust gas pressure is blowing the glasspack out of the muffler, if so the muffler will get louder other than that, unless it plugs up the exhaust pipe you can change to a quality muffler, or leave it.

Its the lining from the catalytic converter - not too pricey to get fixed.
