I don't know if I can be considered a "feminist" or not..................?

Please do not answer if it is just to insult me. This is actually a serious question. I am pro choice, pro equal pay for equal work and against domestic violence. Here's where I may stray from the feminist point of view though. I do believe there are some jobs that should not be open to females. The infantry MOS in the military is one of them. Mining may be another. I watched that Deadliest Catch program on Discovery the other day and I think it is good that the crews aboard those ships are all male. I don't think these positions shouldn't be open to women out of misogynist views or anything like that. I think that if I were an employer though, maybe the owner of one of these ships for instance, I would want to maintain a good working environment where people got along okay and I can see how the hiring of a female worker into such an environment could cause trouble.

Okay, go ahead and tell me what you think. In the long run, my thoughts on this really don't matter anyways.

Update:

Back at you Caribou!

Honestly, women just aren't as physically strong as men. I know that it is an offensive thing to say and it isn't politically correct, but it is an absolute fact. It doesn't mean that they are worse, but they aren't as strong as men. And women wouldn't want to work with those guys on the Deadliest Catch. They wouldn't want women there either. Styles would be cramped for sure!

Believe me.. You are not a feminist if you simply believe in equal rights... My opinion of a feminist is women who believe in Special Rights NOT Equal Rights.. There are some things a man can do but a woman can not.. There are also some things a woman can do but a man can not.. Believe it or not there are many things one man can do that another man can not.. It's called being happy in your own skin and not judging someone by their gender. The Feminist are the ones who want the exact same benefits a man gets but doesn't want the exact same rules to apply.. In my opinion anyone who has to make an effort to PROVE they are equal , or even has to scream to be heard that they are equal... are really not equal at all and I kind of feel sorry for them as they are not comfortable with just being who they really are..

  • Its very accurate, after all we are equal but we just have different methods of reaching the same conclusion. We cant forget the evolutionary standpoint either, when men were the hunters and women the gatherers, has put this mindset into our society for thousands of years. Most men are stronger than the average women so we should be the ones who do the more laborious/dangerous work.

As far as the people on deck, they should probably be all male because of the obvious strength differences. On the other hand, there was a season that featured the Farwest Leader. Captain, Greg Moncrief lists his wife, Ragnhild as a deckhand and cook. During the season, she was referred to as the Boat Mom. There were no problems with her on board.

Never thought I'd be in agreement with a crazy person.

Not only are there issues about unit cohesion, as you point out, but there are simply some tasks (I won't even call them jobs but individual tasks associated with particular jobs) that men are naturally better suited for. Basically, anything calling for upper body strength. On the other hand, women are going to be naturally better for any task requiring physical flexibility.

    That's just biology.

You're obviously against equal rights for women so are NOT a feminist.

YOUR position is even if we find a physically qualified woman, she can't have any of these jobs simply because she's the wrong gender?

Would you also object to having a black man working among white men IF those white men objected?

That WAS the situation decades ago in the military.

No, we shouldn't deny qualified people jobs due to the bigotry of the majority.

I think like the word “Progressive”, the word “feminist” has been bastardized by people that look down their nose at everything they don’t understand or like. I don’t think I’d worry about the “label” someone that dislikes you and are so eager to place upon you.

Just be you, whoever that may be.

This may be the first time we disagree. I think if a woman wants to do the job, and it's her choice, and she is able to do the job, that it should be open to her.

Feminist seem to have a hatred of men, I think it stems from self-hatred as most hate does.

I don't put anything past a female, they can be very accomplished people when they put their hearts and minds into it.
