Chihuahua birth question. Please know what your talking about.?

My little 7 month old Chihuahua is pregnant and is expecting in July. That will make her 8 months for those who don't know her math.

I can feel 5, but I might be wrong. Could be 4, could be more (God forbid).

The question is does anyone know what the law of average is for puppies to be still born on first birth?

You know I am literally speechless at this question, instead of asking if this pregnancy is healthy for you're PUPPY, you are asking the average litter size and average amount of stillborns? Have you no sense of ethics or morals?

You irresponsibly allowed a PUPPY to get pregnant, and don't say it was an accident because deep down you know it wasn't, you did not watch her like you were suppose to and allowed her near intact male dogs, that is sheer negligence not an accident. Either that or (ugh) you did it on purpose, which would really say something about how ethical you are.

Can you even grasp the concept of how difficult this litter is on you're PUPPY? This is a growing dog that needs all the nutrients it can get for proper growth, guess what she is being drained of?

Not to mention the stats on first time puppy mothers rejecting their pups if they are viable, which is high. Not to mention the significant risk if you allow her to free whelp, which is not advisable at all. Not to mention that the chance of viable pups is slim. Not to mention that she sure as hell will have stunted growth. And lastly not to mention the SIGNIFICANT risk of PUPPY mothers dying, which is high.

You're PUPPY is neither physically nor mentally stable enough to be carrying, whelping, raising puppies.

Do you understand the costs of litters? Obviously not since she has probably not seen a vet for pre-whelp examinations, an ultrasound? x rays? You would have known how many pups this poor PUPPY is carrying if you had.

Agreed with other users, doing palpations when you have no clue is dangerous, and you likely just killed you're entire litter. Better get mom into the vet now for an ultrasound to see if there are any heartbeats left. If not, emergency spay time before the rotting puppies kills her.

-__-. Oh my goodness. You get her to a vet if you don't know what to do so you'll be in the presence of someone who DOES know what to do. And I hope you have a credit card with high limits to put a possible C-Section on. She may need one. Do your research before you EVER get crazy breeding ideas in your head again. And I'm not talking a few weeks of it. It takes, literally, years. It also takes a lot of money. You'll probably end up losing a bit of money doing it, MAYBE get close to breaking even. Better yet, just have your pets neutered. Less work for the lot of you. ADD: Helping a cat give birth does NOT give you experience birthing chihuahua pups. You "helping" your cat will NOT help you if the dog needs to get to a vet, and you won't take her, because you're doing research right now and everything should be okay. You "helping" your cat give birth is NOT going to help you if your dog can NOT naturally birth pups, and needs a C-section. If you fail to get her a c-section when she needs one, she'll a] get injured and need IMMEDIATE vet attention before she dies. b] Die while giving birth. And hey, a dead chihuahua mother means dead chihuahua puppies. There go your studding fees, health tests, showing fees, the cost of the actual mother dog, AND your faithful, loving, trusting friend. ...Though I highly doubt you had ANY, but the latter. PLEASE get your dog to a vet, to get a sonogram and find out how many pups she'll be having, and to see if she is large enough for healthy, natural birthing.

    Oh good lord.

Well...expect some serious complications. As in the possible death of your PUPPY and all of the puppies she is carrying. I'm not saying she WILL die....but there is a pretty good chance she will.

How do you think you can feel how many babies are inside her? Most vets can't even do that accurately. They either x ray or ultrasound.

There is no law of average when your dog has been bred with stupidity. 7 month old dogs arent supposed to have puppies. Just like 12 year old girls arent supposed to have babies. The youngest a dog should be bred is 2 years. In case you don't know your math that would be 16 months from the time she is supposed to deliver these puppies.

ETA: The cheapest I have heard of a c section going for is $1500. Usually it is a lot more. I hope you have the money set aside or you are ready to watch her suffer a slow and painful death.

This is one of those cases where I am HOPING this is a troll.

there is NO "law of average" for a first birth.

This PUPPY should have been SPAYED. I really dont know why you thought it was a good idea to let her get pregnant. She's still a baby.. not done growing or maturing.. and you will be quite lucky if you dont KILL her!

I dont know why you are attempting to feel for puppies yourself either. You could seriously injure her or the pups. Palpitating is best left in the hands of an experienced VET.. your VET can also tell you how many pups to expect with an xray or ultrasound.. which should be done anyways. SInce she's still a puppy herself, this pregnancy should be closely monitored. Xray/ultrasound will also help to determine if these pups will be too big for her to whelp so that a cecarian can be planned.

If she doesnt die.. get this dog SPAYED once this litter is weaned.

Oh my good Lord, there are so many things wrong with this I am in despair.

    1. Letting a 7 month old dog have puppies is the equivalent of letting a 10 year old girl have a baby. Would you let your 10 year old daughter have a baby? Your dog have neither the mental or physical maturity to have puppies.

    2. Have you even CONSIDERED going to the vet to have an ultrasound done to determine the number of puppies she is going to have and if she is even capable of having them? Have you set aside at least $2000 for the c-section she is almost certain to require?

Congratulation, you are yet another backyard breeder who has put the life of her dog in danger for her own greed and stupidity. I bet you feel on top of the world. If you had any sense, you'd get her to the vet asap for an emergency spay and save her going through what is sure to be a dangerous if not fatal whelp.

I don't know of any statistics on it.

Take her to the Vet & get an ultrasound to see how many pups there will be. She is sooooo young to be going through this. Dogs should not even be bred until they are 2 yrs. old. While you are there the Vet can check her health & will be able to tell you if you are going to need to C-section to deliver these pups.

Because of her age she may not know how to care for her babies, she is just a little girl herself. She may need lots of help in whelp & you need to know what to do to help her & you need to know when natural birth is no longer an option, so you can get her to the Vet before she dies.

In Chi breeding it is common to loose both mama & pups, especially if the breeder doesn't know what they need to know.

Get on the net & do some research so you can help her the best way you can.

it is correct that an amateur trying to palate pups-can kill the entire litter. AKC claims a 30% death rate between birth & weaning - this varies from 100% of a litter to 0%. Given that most of the breeders I know seldom loose a pup, this means somebody looses them in droves. As desperately underage mom in a breed known for delivery problems, she's a prime candidate for being somebody

Feeling around like that can kill all of those pups, did you realize that?? You've likely already done serious damage. Either pay for the emergency spay now, or pay for $2000 for to deliver a bunch of dead pups next month. Your choice.

  • Since your b*tch is too young to be having puppies, since she is a high-risk breed, and since you obviously don't have a clue what you are doing, you will be lucky if SHE survives, let alone the puppies.

Consult with your vet and put aside about $2000 for an emergency c-section.

Oh, for goodness sakes! Call the vet and get an appointment this week for an emergency spay. Your PUPPY is far too young for this.
