If you mean 12 = x * (square root of 3), simply divide by the square root of three.
If you mean 12 = the third root of x, simply raise both sides to the third power.
If you mean 12 = the "xth" root of 3, you need to raise both sides to the power of x. This yields 12^x = 3. From this point, you should log both sides and get xlog12 = log3. Then divide both sides by log 12 and you should get x = log(.25)
