Why do dogs eat grass?

I have a dog that LOVES to eat grass and I have one that does to help him throw up. I asked my vet and she said that some dogs just like the taste of grass. However dogs do not have the digestive means to break it down. In the wild dogs would eat the stomach contents of their prey that were herbivores and that is how they would get the grass nutrients. I have had a couple of vets tell me that some just crave it and others do it to help with stomach upset. But either way they can not break it down so they really should not be eating it.

It really does depend what type of breed dog you have.

Small breed:

It may be when they are feeling ill, or trying to puke something bad out

Medium Breed:

Same as first, or maybe because they are just hungry, or want grass

Large Breed:

Mainly because they are hungry or crave grass

Also by type of dog.

Indoor dog breed:

Probably because they are feeling sick or need to puke.

Outdoor/Family dog:

Maybe becuase of the above or becuase they crave grass

Hearding/ really active dog:

These dogs have strong imune systems, they probably eat it becuase they craze it, or they are hungry.

Eating grass helps them with their digestion system. Not uncommon if they have a slight upset stomach.

my older pug loves eating grass for some reason he isn't sick or anything but since i got him he has always eaten grass

Dogs like to eat everything. You shouldn't question it as long as its not anything important to you =p

They eat it if they're feeling ill. It usually makes them puke. Indigestion problem solved.

To make themselves sick and bring up what is causing them a problem
