i was sold a car and now I find out it has a junk title.?

According to law, I can't plate it, have insurance on it, or drive it, however I have been driving it for 5 years. I was going to trade my car in and then found this out. Isn't it illegal to sell me this car in the first place?? Any suggestions on what I should do?

Update:

HaHa I guess I should have been more detailed in my description. The car drives fine, I DID inf act licence and insure it, however I went to trade it in, and the dealer showed me the carfax and it says Junk title on it, so I can not trade it in like that. I never knew about it until I was showed the car fax. When I "bought" the car, I was never made aware the title was junk, I just looked at the car and it drove really well, and it still does. I was just wondering if I could do anything to change the junk part so I can sell the vehicle.

How were you able to drive this vehicle for that length of time w/o insurance, registration, etc ??? Nothing to do about the person that originally sold it to you; too late for that

Interesting how you phrased that. You were SOLD A CAR.

You didn't buy a car ? Someone put a gun to your head and SOLD YOU THE CAR. Right ?

What does your bill of sale say ? How is it you JUST NOW found it it has a salvage title ?

If the bill of sale mentions it, you are an owner. Nothing you can do except maybe talk to a re builder about getting it rebuilt.

If the bill of sale doesn't mention it but it says SALVAGE on the title, again, nothing you can do.

The only way its illegal is if you weren't told and had no reasonable way of knowing.

And if its stamped "salvage" on the title, you should have known.

Wait Oh, and you have been driving it for 5 years without a tag or insurance ? Its been 5 years ? NOT A DARN thing you can do about it now except sell it for scrap or keep driving it another 20-30 years without a tag or insurance.

Neat trick, why exactly is that bothering you now ?

of course you ought to offer them the identify. The identify shows possession, without it you ought to accuse them of stealing it. in the event that they're buying the vehicle from you, you ought to sign over the identify to them, that the vehicle is junk is beside the point. The license plates get decrease back to the DMV.
