Looking for web hosting services, is this not available for Mac OS?
I am new to this process. However, I went in to register my domain names at Go Daddy and went to choose my web hosting service and it only had options for Linux- and Windows-based OS. As a Mac owner what are my options? I ran into this issue at Enom as well. I plan to use Joomla as my CMS (not sure if this helps).

What they mean is the server is running either Linux or Windows. If you use a mac you will still be able to view it. Most users use Linux as it's cheaper and web hosting wise you won't really notice a difference (unless your a web applications developer etc...) For Joomla that would be fine with any host which allows databases.
I run a small website too which is being hosted by CGIwire (http://cgiwire.com)/ - So far their help has been amazing (setup within minutes which was very impressive).

Mac OS is (now) Unix-based, and some of the providers boosting using Unix-servers, may very well be using Mac.
I don't really understand why you need it to be Mac-based. That you create a web-page on a Mac, doesn't mean that the finished site need to be *hosted* on a Mac. HTML is HTML.
I would suggest using Linux/Unix based solution. Not only is it (often) cheaper; but Apache, PHP, MySQL and so forth is readily available for Mac OS too, which makes it easy to dry-run your site before uploading.
The Windows-based solution, probably uses ASP instead of PHP, Windows' SQL solution instead of MySQL, and may have FrontPage extensions activated. If you're not using FrontPage or ASP to write your site, you may as well use the Linux/Unix solution. ASP is more of a proprietary solution than PHP, so odds are you can't test ASP-scripts on a Mac before uploading your site. Of course, once the site is uploaded to the web-hotell, it can be accessed equally by computers running Windows, Mac, Linux, Unix or another OS; wheter it uses PHP or ASP.
If you're planning to use Joomla, you'll need PHP and MySQL; as Joomla is based on these. So select the Linux/Unix server. Packages like Gallery, Coppermine, phpBB and so forth; are all PHP-based packages, meaning you'll need PHP to run them... so you've already discarded using ASP (which is Microsoft's alternative to PHP).

Yes, go will Linux. Joomla is a great CMS, have used it for a number of sites.
Have one hosted on GoDaddy servers and works fine, so if domain is there, you might as well get your hosting through them as well.
It makes no difference what your own computer is, as if you are editing files for example the template php file, you will be using software to edit the code which you then upload to your website. You will need an ftp program and html/php editing software if you want to customise your php files.
All the best :)

Don't use godaddy because of http://www.nodaddy.com/
One of the biggest misconceptions is that you have to select the same operating system for your hosting account that you use on your own computer. This is simply not true. In other words, you can select Linux for your hosting account if you currently use Windows or Mac operating systems on your own computer.
As an experienced webmaster I recommend BH web hosting which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

It doesn't matter what type of OS you are using in your computer. You can either use a windows/Linux web hosting. Most popular hosting servers run in Linux.
