How many people know there is a full media-black out?
in Louisianna. The no-Fly zone has been expanded so no plane can fly over taking pictures.
They are arresting people who strole down to the beach to take photographs of the damage.
Every hotel within 80 miles is booked by BP officials; to prevent reporters from coming in.
Meanwhile, the British parliament is asking Obama not to visit the the gulf; so as not to upset the pentions of BP contractors.
It's funny how America is always last to disclose this information to the public. I live in England.
What do you think of this, Americans?
First answer: Both
Finally someone understands the concept. Eureka.

Actually, I believe I heard this on National Public Radio (or some other media outlet) yesterday. It's not a full-media blackout - it's a pattern of hiding and obfuscation by a corporate entity.
It's an unconscionable strategy on the part of BP.

I agree with other people who question the existence of this so-called media blackout.
I'm not saying this could never occur. It could.
But I want ome evidence that this is actually happening before I take the word of some stranger on the Web that the blackout really exists.
To defend whoever asked this question against the critics, however -- I think it makes NO sense to blame "the British" or an individual Englishman, Scotsman or Welshman for the oil spill caused by "British Petroleum."
How many citizens of the United States have ANY control over the good deeds or the bad deeds of supposedly "American" oil companies? Very few.
How many "American" posters to Yahoo Answers can take any responsibility, or should be asked to take any responsibility, for what Exxon-Mobil any other "American-owned" oil company does in some foreign country?
Nobody.
We're just fooling outselves about the structure and the governing processes of huge multinational corporations if we think of BP as "British," and if we assume that anyone who is "British" therefore has any influence over BP's acts in the Gulf of Mexico.
We're also fooling ourselves badly if we think that because we're "American," you or I can influence the behavior of any big "American" oil company.
Let's be real: those who really control "British" BP or "American" Exxon-Mobil are the top management officials, like the CEO and the president of each company, and the largest & richest corporate stockholders. Maybe if you run a giant Wall Street bank and you've loaned one of these oil companies a ton of money, you might have some influence, too.
But it's a good bet that nobody on YA has much is any control over what BP does or Exxon does.
Please - let's none of us in the R&S group blame each other for things that giant corporations are going behind our backs, and without our consent.
PS - Some named Arthur writes: "Our president will go where we tell him to because he works for us."
Does anyone else really believe this? I voted for Obama, I gave him money, I still prefer him to the Republican alternatives -- but will he "go where we tell him to because he works for us"?
No. Like every other American politican, he works in a national political arena where the voices of huge corporations and big industries greatly outweigh the puny voices of individual voters.
Obama like every other American president works for the corporate and political "power elite," not you and me. Let's not forget thsi.

I live here in California. No I didn't know there was a media black-out in Louisiana.
What I think of that? I think it's nonsense, silly, keeping the "blame" game dragging on.
An accident occurred. It's known the cause... Leak in the seal of oil pipe.and the device that detects that was not working properly. Concerned about productivity more than safety so that was overlooked..thus the oil spillage.
Person in charge of "pipe seal detector" made that known. The person who said "So what, continue on anyway"....That's the person responsible for this yet the "blame game" continues.
Money takes front seat to "man-ing up" (man up) and being honest.
Born and raised here in California, thus an American citizen. Fine enough country, yet SO MUCH corruption, secrets and greed goes on. Not just here, but in the entire world, yet question was about America, so there's my answer.
Reside in America, yet "citizenship" is of no place as I'm first and foremost soul, Spirit. Through those "eyes" what's seen is just silly behavior of "unawakened" beings. Still, all loved.

I think that the whole mess is atrocious! However I also think that the whole of humanity is responsible! It is our greed and our need for continued use of petroleum based products, that keep this type of thing happening all around the World. We are all guilty of hurting this planet beyond belief! We have done irreparable damage, and the future generations will surely reap all that destruction we have sown. The reason behind all the cover up is that greed is a strong motivator. This is just ONE situation where there is a "black out" of media coverage. Doesn't it make you wonder how many other things are being "blacked out" that you are NOT aware of?!

BP is a "Global-based Company"
They have a dot com website, and also one in the UK.
The company that was developing the off-shore drilling for the gulf was Chevron.
BP's head office is in the UK.
I hope Britons take responsibility for what they've done to our beautiful planet.

That's odd because I have seen loads of pictures of the oil slick on the NASA website. Pictures from satellites and from the ISS.
Point of information: 39% of shares in BP are owned by US shareholders. It is not a British company anymore. It is a global company.

"Meanwhile, the British parliament is asking Obama not to visit the the gulf; so as not to upset the pentions of BP contractors."
And then you turn right around and say Americans are withholding.
Our president will go where we tell him to because he works for us, not your big company or your Parliament.

Oh, really?
Then why can I watch live video of the broken pipe spilling oil?
http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/06/12/gulf.oil.disaster...
And why did I have no problem finding at least 20 photos taken TODAY from the air, the coast, etc. by a number of news photographers?
You conspiracy nuts never realize how easy it is to show your claims bogus, do you?
Peace.

so what are you trying to say? That Americans are duped by their officials or that BP officials are deceitful? Or both?
I have British relatives and I often get different information from them than I get here...so I guess I would not be that surprised if it turns out to be true.

What the hell are you talking about? All of the news networks have been reporting from the region on a daily basis. As for the Brits, they can ask whatever they wish. That doesn't mean their request will be honored.
