do birds ever hump objects?

my birds just started wagging his tail around on the toy he sleeps on. I know that for a female it means they could be egg bound, but the vet told me he was too heavy to be a male so its not that. could have have just been letting out sexual frustration?

Yes they do, and often. Male AND female budgies hump or masturbate against anything...perches, drinkers etc.

Even our show budgies hump their drinkers and the cage bars when in a budgie show.

Is you vet an avian vet ? The reason I ask is that the statement that a budgie was too heavy to be a male is cr*p to be honest. Its one of the most stupid things I have ever heard a vet to say and has no bearing on any truth or fact.
