DIY decorating a nursey!!! CRAFTS!!! gimme ideas!?

I got a quilt that i am using as a theme to decorate the room for the baby boy were about to have in the beginning of july. its made with bright blues, greens and yellows. so i am sticking to those colors, and trying to incorporate the animals in any way i can. (click link below to see the quilt)

I made a mobile out of those colors by folding 3d origami stars to hang, Ive printed and colored coloring pages and framed them and hung them in a cluster. but im far from done! we live in an apartment so painting is not an option, sadly.

I am skilled in pretty much all crafts, crochet, sewing, scrapbooking, drawing, anything you can think of, i have done before and done it to professional quality. But when it comes to ideas Im LOST!!!

I want to make everything to keep costs as super low as possible, plus i have so many supplies i need to use up.

Please give me some craft ideas to decorate the babys room! HELP!!!!!

Sort out the supplies to see what you have to work with in each category.

Go from there, although it appears you have already done quite a bit.

Have you ever made a chenille rug from strips of left-over fabric? There is rug tape you can use to keep the rug from slipping. It is not permanent and sticks-on then pulls off when you want to wash the rug. It is sold with the accent rugs at Walmart.

An idea for getting around the painting issue- get some LARGE canvases and paint THEM! I'm talking the ones that are HUGE here- close to 2 metres across!

That's what I did- if you aren't allowed to put holes in the walls, use those stick on picture hangers- Command brand has ones specifically designed for hanging canvases and they make it really easy to move the paintings.

Stitch up curtains to match- I would use a dark blue block out fabric under a yellow gauze netting and applique animals and stars on to the netting to match the quilt.

make some cute felt animals to match the quilt,

    some quilted scatter cushions,

some bigger floor cushions (kids LOVE these!)....

that's pretty much all I can think of.

You could make some pony bead frogs and alligators (Is it an alligator? Anyway, I couldn't find dragon ones) and hang them around the room.

These websites show you how to make them. Materials are listed.

You could crochet rain drops (or make them out of other materials) and tape them on the walls.

Later on during the baby boy's life, you will probably buy those Life-touch photos children take in school so you can buy a large photo frame and put those small pictures in slots so you can see his life progress as he grows older. (Sorry if you don't understand these instructions)

Use glow-in-the-dark stars and glue them to the ceiling. You might want to add some planet stickers among them too.

You can make or buy green, blue, or yellow stuffed animals. Then arrange them all over book shelves or whatever furniture you might have in the nursery.

Make origami dioramas in shoe boxes. Stay with paper in the colors you want. (I am assuming green, blue, and yellow. Origami website:

Other origami subjects might be found on the sidebar.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Other than using fabric on the walls I don't have anything to add, except that what you've already done is really great! The origami stars and colored pages look fantastic. I'm sure it will turn out wonderful.

Maybe make throw pillows or some sort of stuffed animals. My mom made a scrapbook for my sister and me before we were born and just filled it later with pics as we got older.

As far as not being able to paint, weve recently discovered people fixing that problem by hanging material for paint -- a couple tacks to hold in the corners and waalah, instant colored wall.

  • It would be nice to do a photo quilt of your son for each year of his life =) These would be good not just as decoration but also as a reminder of the year that was. =)
