why won't my guinea pigs eat any thing out of my hand?

There are lots of reasons for that, It might think your trying to piosin it, though i'm not sure it guinea pigs are smart enought to think like that. Try rubbing your scent on the timothy hay and put it in their cage. Or maybe they are just not hungry enough to trust you with eating out of your hand. Maybe it doesn't like the odor of your hand, make sure to always wash your hands before handling it, guinea pigs might not like your perfume or cologne.

it could be the way you're doing it. are you hovering over the cage like a big beast, reaching out with your giant arm, reaching towards them? guinea pigs are nature's cute little snack for just about everything, and you're the biggest predator (because everything bigger than them in nature IS a predator) they've ever seen. level the playing field. if the cage is on the floor, lay on your tummy and hold the food out only an inch off the floor so it looks more like you're offering something than trying to thwack them with it.

another idea is to sit with them on your lap or chest for a few minutes and pet them, let them see you love them, then offer them something. if you can get to the point even where they watch you put something near them, then they eat if while you're there, that could be a small step. i've had mine for a year now and they still most of the time try to snatch veggies from my hand and run away with it. lol. it just isn't in their nature to hang out in the open.

find a treat they just CAN'T resist. celery, cabbage, a chunk of apple, radish, something will be their weakness, and that's a goo

You aren't doing anything wrong. They are probaly just shy they may eventlly warm up to you some guinea pigs may never eat from your hand one off my guinea pigs who i have had for over a year still won't eat out of my hand

you're not doing anything wrong ! it's been 4 days, they're shy and not used to you. just keep on playing with them, seems like you're doing everything right, it took a week or so for my guinea to eat anything out of my hand. now he takes carrots and hay all the time from me,

I don't think you're doing anything wrong :) thats how it happened with my guinea pig too. The guinea pigs are not used to the new environment and they just need time and they need to get to know you a little better thats all.

Just give it some time......guinea pigs are great but if you want a more social animal get a rat they eat out of my hand the first day i get them...........GOOD LUCK

They could still be scared or just not hungry...wait a little until they get used to u more.

i don't think your doing anything wrong. guinea pigs arn't very trusting.
