Japan tourist visa question?

I want to visit my friend in japan. In the invitation letter for the visa, he list his name and address as the inviting person/party. I plan to stay at his house in the weekends and move to a nearby hotel on weekdays (his wife and kid are staying in) Can he put this information in or can he just say i am staying in his house all the time? thanks

Depends upon where you are coming from. If the U.S., just list his address as where you will be staying and be done with it. Don't ask for problems you don't want or need. Unless, of course, you like to hear Japanese immigration officials sucking air through their teeth as they wonder what to do with you.

Because the OP has an invitation letter for the visa as a temporary visitor, it is safe to assume the OP is not a citizen/national from a Visa Waiver country like the US/Canada etc.

The invitation letter should include the following information:

    1. Purpose of the Invitation

    2. Background to the invitation (explain the background to this invitation and details of relationship)

    3. Other / Date and duration of stay in Japan intended

For the visa to process as smooth as possible you/your friend should answer each question in as much detail truthfully as possible.

in case you have a US or Canadian passport that doesn't expire interior of three months of your entering Japan, you do no longer prefer a visa to pass into Japan while you're staying 3 months or much less. Threeday... and Juno are ultimate. in case you carry a Philippines passport, you will possibly desire to stick to for and acquire a visa merely before arriving in Japan.

bluemoon is right, nobody will come to his house and knock on his door to ask if you are there. They never check. It's just the bureaucracy trying to follow a useless procedure. They ask that question of every foreigner who enters the country...

Just put his address an and done with it. Have a good time in japan! (Be sure to bring TONS of cash)

It is just for better persuadable convenience to receive visa accordingly. Nobody will check if it is true and correct during your stay actually. You can just say you will stay at his house all the time. It's just a technical matter of Japanese bureaucratic pretending way of working
