7 AnswersAnthropology7 years agoGood bye Japan section?
After two years of active use, the site bores the living daylight out of me. The admin have issued and stripped me of my badges and avatar so many times that I have lost count. This section has become a shadow of its former self with trolls, dullards and self promoters inhabiting these boards. It was fun while it lasted and every 'good thing' must come to an end as they say. I must congratulate the user called 'Thecheapest' after many years of 'toiling', he has finally made it as the top contributor in Japan. This calls for a celebratory toast so accept my sake young man ;) Have fun guys i am sure you will miss my wits and frank and brutal honesty
1 AnswerJapan9 years agoWhat does INA section 217 R17008 mean?
This was stamped on my passport and I was refused entry to the US. I told them i was out of work but i had cash and credit cards with me to sustain myself and had already booked a hotel but this did not wash with them
4 AnswersImmigration9 years agoHow will Bush be remembered?
For me he will always be a war criminal and should be tried for his crimes. Everyone on both divides agreed with Afghanistan but he took his eye off the ball and decided to dupe the American public with lies and fairy tales (the world is more dangerous thanks to Bush). Is it any wonder he is no longer in the public eye?

10 AnswersLanguages10 years agoWhy is teaching English getting such a bad 'rap' in Japan?
I have respect for all teachers (regardless of what they teach) and i know that teaching is a skill which is acquired over time. It is not your usual part-time job and not everyone (myself included) has the skills to become a successful teacher. In this section i have seen some many youngsters wanting to get to Japan by any means possible that see English as their meal ticket. Some contributors on here even encourage them to do English by the side as a means to much better things. This is giving teaching a bad name. So my question is why do some people see teaching English as an easy meal ticket and why do some contributors on here encourage them? If somebody has a well thought out life plan then surely they won't be asking such questions? I know they are genuine teachers out there and they know what they want to do in Japan (they probably know how to get there and all the legal issues and so on) but it is the not so genuine ones that i am worried about.
5 AnswersJapan1 decade agoStephen Fry Japan trip scrapped after A-bomb joke?
I watched the offending article not long ago (on the TV and read a topic on here) and saw how it upset many people in Japan and overseas. Good news though the BBC has scrapped his Japan trip: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12361873
2 AnswersJapan1 decade agoThe top US presidents (UK Poll)?
According to the institute for the study of the Americas and on the BBC, Franklin D Roosevelt has topped the poll as the 'top U.S president' So the top five (5) is:
1. Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1933-45)
2. Abraham Lincoln (1861-65)
3. George Washington (1789-97)
4. Thomas Jefferson (1801-09)
5. Theodore Roosevelt (1901-09)
Not suprising President Bush was in the bottom 10 along with some Pre and post civil war presidents (i am not a historian but i only know a single name on the list):
36. Andrew Johnson (1865-69)
37. John Tyler (1841-45)
38. Warren Harding (1921-23)
39. Franklin Pierce (1853-57)
40. James Buchanan (1857-61)
What do you guys make of this list? Bear in mind that this is from the British perspective and is totally different from the American one. Obama cannot be scored yet as he is still in term but it will be interesting to see where he finishes when his term is up
7 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoWhy is there so much hostility towards Obama?
I know race is one and policies is another. So what else?
I have to give the guy some credit as he is trying hard to fix the problems created by Bush. The Iraq pull out next year out is great news for example
21 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhy did President Grover Cleveland not help the then queen of Madagascar Queen Ranavalona III?
I have been reading the history about the monarchy in Madagascar. Ranavalona III came to the throne quite late. The French were already planning to colonize the island. There was already a strong relationship between Madagascar and the United States. She tried to court the U.S help by sending the first diplomatic mission to U.S and by sending gifts. All this was in vain as France invaded and the monarchy was aboloshed and she was exiled to Algeria where she died. So my question is why did the U.S not offer to help Madagascar stay independent?
