Can you tell me why???????????????
women are not opting for B.E mechanical as compared to men??
Is the field hard for them?
Please do response, if you some kind of experience or knowledge about this question.
Though some women opt, but not much of them and still mech is male dominated field. I just want to know the reason behind it.
Is there any disadvantage for women in this field??
Will they get job opportunities as men??

Because of the misconception that mechanical engineers are blue overall wearing, stubble faced tobacco smoking guys with greasy hands and face, wielding a spanner, none of which seems lady like. Actually in my opinion women may be better at areas like machine design, and mechatronics.

2 reasons:
1. Traditional roles, still emphasized by media & marketing. When was the last time you saw a commerical on TV for laundry soap with a man washing the clothes? Or a male as a daycare employee?
2. Brain chemistry. Men and women *generally* have different balances of chemicals in the brain, and different neural pathways. This is not to say either gender can or can't do a particular job, but rather that there is in general, an "internal preference"... women *generally* are attracted to nurturing roles. Of course there is some overlap, and many exceptions. I'm only speaking "on average".

Many women are doctors, dentists, lawyers, teachers and nurses. Intelligences is not a problem. However, woman have female hormones and male and female hormones result in differences in brain development (Anne Moir). Therefore, women are generally more emotional (a good thing for rearing children). Men often have greater powers of logic (math, etc.) not being distracted by emotions. Many women are more people oriented then men and gravitate to professions that have more emotional content than working with machines, etc. Engineers often work in groups on projects as well as at desks or on computers alone. Women might enjoy engineering if they gave it a chance, but it is still their choice.

There was a study done where 1 to 2 week old boys and girls were shown a toy. The frist time they spent equal time looking at the toy before the got board. Then the toy was rotated and shown to the kids again. The boys quickly realized that this was the same toy and lost interest where as the girls took on average twice as long to get board. This suggested to researchers that boys are better at what is called spatial vizulation which is very importnat in the mechanical engineering field.

Basically, women are generally weaker than men in all aspects be it working in mechanical labs or do strenous work. Hence, usually girls or women will not opt for mechanical engineering.
They may get job opportunities as men do but can't say it for sure.

I think it is cultural. In your country women have to travel in women only rail cars for safety, because otherwise they get groped by men. As long as this attitude persists, you will have few women going for traditional men occupations.
In the US there are plenty of women going for engineering, I had plenty in my classes more than 20 years ago, and the proportion is even higher now.

mechanical engineering more tough for women because mechanical engineers mostly related with machine design, maintenance, machine project which is more difficult than other branch.
