Coldplay is a relatively normal name IMO (crap band, but I don't see a problem with the name)
What really bugs me is that nowadays bands have to give themselves the most retarded names (mostly deathcore and metalcore bands)... Back in the day, band names were usually 2-4 syllables, and easy to chant at a show... I can't imagine how the deathcore kids have to abbreviate their band names to something chantable...
I actually thought of this when I heard Suicide Silence was playing the same festival as Megadeth a while back...
"ME-GA-DETH! ME-GA-DETH!!"
"SU-I-CIDE.. SI-Lence? OH GOD, WHAT DO WE CHANT!??" *head explodes*
There's a band called "Iwrestledabearonce", I guess they thought if they didn't add spaces between words it still counted as one word...
And their songs aren't any better, song names are complete sentences nowadays, and not in that tongue-in-cheek White Zombie kind of way... I'ma do a random Wikipedia search for a random album by a random metalcore/deathcore band and prove to you that this is true...
"What a Horrible Night To Have a Curse"
"No Need for Introductions, I've Read About Girls Like You On the Backs of Toilet Doors"
"Altered from Catechization" (an especially stupid song name, most of these jackasses are just looking through a thesaurus for synonyms)
"Extreme Wrath of the Jhiaxus"
"Stabbing to Purge Dissimulation"
"A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation"
"Opposite of Left and Wrong"
I'll just stop there, I'm getting queasy...

To be fair, A Gunshot To The Head of Trepidation was a song off of Ascendancy, not an album.
And I agree that there are too many stupid names in crappy genres like Deathcore, or Metalcore.
Ex. Here Comes The Kraken
Arsonists Get All The Girls
Alexisonfire
I Set My Friends On Fire (not REALLY metalcore, but still a stupid name)

I think I'm in love with you XD You're totally right, I don't know what happened to music, what happened to having a good time during a concert or while listening to music, these days we have the emos, sulking around, crapping on everyone how miserable their suburbia *** is. The names are just as ridiculous as the music itself. Have you heard of a band called "I love you but I chose the darkness instead" I am not joking, look them up...Heavy metal got too commercialized, many people towards the 90's started copying each other, record companies saw $$$ and, just like today, made copies and copies of bands that were selling big, those bands are gone, the carbon copies, but the true rockers still stand, sadly they're surrounded by sulky **** heads...also the grunge and rap/hip hop movement, good girls like mariah carry..or whatever..and britney spears came in, and suddenly being good became "cool" again, the hip hop movement started early on, but became bigger and bigger(today lil wayne and 50 w/e top our charts) it's very sad...but back to the topic..yea the names suck >:o..... :D

I am still laughing at this.
I have long wondered why bands decided instead of something simple and catchy.. geee.. let's use a whole bloody sentence.. and use the ENTIRE chorus for our song names......
Admittedly.. I have a feeling a lot of the simpler 1 word names have already been taken, so it is easier to find something "original" but dear god.. that would not bug me so much if they played good music.. and for the most part.. they don't.
Only thing I will say..is if you ignore the mainstream.. there is TONS of awesome Thrash, Death, and Power Metal to be had... and even as a majorly old school Metalhead I LOVE the modern MeloDeath and Folk Metal scenes.

You forgot to mention deathcore. That genre has the stupidest band names of all time. Whitechapel, Chealsea Smile (or whatever it's called), Suicide Silence, etc. They are trying to be hardcore with their band names and failing. I also agree that grindcore sucks. I really can't stand it.

Because all of the good names have been taken by now.
But don't hate on the 90's. I've always felt thet Nirvana, Cake, and Soundgarden were good band names.
You're right, though, about the genres that have -core at the end. Trying to be hardcore doesn't make you hardcore.
