Please remind me how to clear decimals?

I forgot how to do this simple thing:

.7x+.1(100-x)=60

if I wanted to clear the decimals how would I know how much to multiply it by (all the terms)? Is it 100 or 10? How do I know which one to use?

Silly, but I forgot...

number of zeros after 1 = greatest number of digits after the decimal point

so since your problem contains .7 and .1 you multiply by 10.

if it were .07 and .1 you multiply by 100. [ in this case greatest number of digits after decimal point (in .07) = 2 ]

it would be 10 as the farthest digit to the left of any of your decimals is in the tenths place
