How do i get this symbol on the keyboard?

I am using this programming software, which is very new to me.? But I using a text book as a guide and I have to enter, two vertical parallel lines. They look like this II. (I'm pretty sure it's not two uppercae I's that;s why I am asking.

    Hold down the shift button and press \ key. It's right above the enter button. Ex. ||

    ||? On my keyboards, that's a Shift-\ key (twice), just above my Enter key.
