Want a credit card, have no credit...?

I did not get a cc in my youth because I didn't want that responsibility when I was so young. Now that I am older I would like a cc but I was just denied because I have no credit history. If my husband, who does have good credit, applies for a cc and I get the second "free" cc would the purchases on that card go towards my credit or his?

I feel like I'm being punished now for my prudence as a youth.

Apply in your name with your husband as a cosigner.

Purchases do not go on anyone's credit. The credit card account does, but only the balance, whether it is paid on time, etc., not the individual purchases. If you apply for the account jointly, then the information goes on both your report and his. If he applies as the only applicant and you are only an authorized user, then it goes only on his. The individual cards are not tracked separately, only the account as a whole.

Credit cards are evil and to be avoided.

if you feel you 'must' have a visa or something like that

open a checking account with a bank that will provide a "No Cost to you" debit card
