Sv650 vs. Ninja 650r?
Hi can anyone compare these bikes. They are very similar in terms of power and ergonomics. I'm looking at the sv650 naked versus the 09+ Ninja 650r. I'm buying used and the ninja 650r is about $500 more, but not a deal breaker by any means. I really dislike the sound of the parallel twin in the 650r... it doesn't sound like a motorcycle. Besides that, it's very narrow and low to the ground which is good for me, I like the new look overall with the seperate headlights, i'd probably have to swap the exhaust and handle bars.
The sv650 is a classic, more "street" type bike. I've never ridden a naked bike but I would assume there would be less win protection. The sv650 has a bit more power I think, and it sounds pretty nice with a slip on. Huge following, lots of upgrades and parts available. Could easily get rid of when the time comes. Lacks in the sex appeal department :p
Both are great bikes, but i can't decide!! do not tell me to get a 600 supersposrt, i just got rid of my GSXR and am looking for something that is more comfortable for long rides and commuting. any opinions would b e appreciated :D thanks.

hands down, the sv wins in my book. i would recommend the 03 or newer because of the fuel injection and newer look compared to the 1st gen design.
I prefer V engines over inline any day, so the 650r is out. the 650r seems a little higher in seat height. i've always told people over the last 10 years that the sv650 is the all around do it all bike, you can commute, ride the back roads, light tour, or track ride it. nice cost to fun ratio. reliable and plenty of good deals out there on them. i see these bikes on craigslist almost as much as i see 250 ninjas. now an sv isn't going to give you the same big thrill as a true sportbike, but a new priced sv is definately going to give you a great amount of fun for your money.
i don't quite understand why you think it lacks sex appeal. i think it's a hot bike.
and besides....vtwin standards and sportbikes rock. i'll never sell my rc51

you dont have to worry about anyone telling you to get a sportbike on here. As for the SV and 600r, I would go with the SV. . Its a better bike in my opinion. It will out handle the 600r by far. rides nice and well as far as looks, thats a matter of personal opinion, but the SV wins there with me too. The sound is an aquired taste, but it grows on you. May I also add that they are more reliable in the long run.
