Is organized religion big business in America?

Yes it is....the donation basket is a joke. Plus all the tax breaks, I think its about time we stop giving them money and breaks, make them actually have to work or at least do charity work. Brainwashing a group of people every week does not take talent and does not deserve to be rewarded.

Aside from religion as business, I would venture to say that selling pills - legal or illegal - is a bigger business throughout the world, and yes they take in large sums of money, and no end in sight.

It's been big business for centuries. Why do you think Jesus threw the Jewish merchants and money changers out of the temple, and said they were making his Father's house of prayer, "a den of merchandise." (John 2:16) The Jewish religious leaders were in "cahoots" with them and were getting rich off extorting money from people who came to sacrifice and worship at the temple.

Nothing's changed. It's only gotten bigger and more flagrant. Just look at the commericialism behind holidays which are supposed to be in honor of God. And why do you think God condemns the harlot of Revelation ~aka~ "Babylon the Great" for not only being "in bed" with the political leaders of the world but also with the "merchants" ... that's why she has A LOT to answer for to God.

Religion has been making a profit in the name of God for centuries.

They also have wealthy pastors. I have met a few. Jesus said that the tiime is now that true believers will worship in spirit and in truth

Not only in America but worldwide.

The business is rich and yet people are still starving and homeless.
