More RAM of faster processor?

My computer is not as fast as i would like. I use it mainly for all around use I game on it along with browsing the internet and downloading programs. I do have it partitioned into two different drives, one running windows vista ultimate and one running Windows 7 ultimate.

I am trying to decide reather i want to by more RAM (from 2GB to 3 or 4 BG) or a faster processor. What would you recommend?

NOTE: I have a Dell Vostro 1400 with a intel core 2 Duo @ 2.00GHz, 2GB RAM, both OS's are 32-bit.

More RAM will alleviate the stress on the processor, and will allow for quicker rendering and ease multitasking strain. Upgrading the RAM is the better choice. Also, you're laptop is pretty standard, so you wouldn't be able to upgrade the processor regardless.

a faster processor would be your best bet as any more than 2gb of ram would not make your comp "faster" (it would only load screens faster) a 2.5ghz core 2 duo should significanly give you a boost though in games (framerates). hope this helps (for a 32 bit system the max you'd want is 3gb as that's all that gets recognized)

i could say greater RAM could suite you greater effective. a number of motives. it may be decrease priced to function greater RAM on your device. And utility is getting further and further memory hogs, once you spot classes start to lag, its infrequently because of the processors, that is many times because of the fact the device is having to reallocate memory. you will no longer see that a lot of a develop in overall performance from 2.4ghz to 3ghz. they're the two insanely rapid. yet for the greater value, it is not well worth it until you're performing some extreme gaming, or hardcore variety crunching... i think of with 2.4ghz you would be particularly happy.

Your system is actually fairly well matched, so it's not obvious which upgrade would make more sense. Can you be more specific about what you would like to be faster? How do you notice that the computer is not as fast as you would like? Is it frame rate in games? Is it when you launch a program?

ram is always your best bet. you won't see much of a difference with a faster processor. you might want to clean up the junk files on your computer and you'll see fast results for free. get the program CCleaner (crap cleaner) and run it. after, defrag your hard drive
