Can a police officer force an 14-year-old to go home to an abusive family member if she fears for her life?

If the cop doesn't believe there is actual abuse even if there are multiple character and abuse witnesses, include a 9-year-old child and an almost legal sister (who herself has experienced abuse from the same family member). The girl fought back (shoved her abuser) because she was terrified. The girl has a place to stay, if that matters.

Also, the officer said, "You just have to go home and face your fears." Is that how things are supposed to work?

If the cop can't see any signs of abuse, they have no other choice than to return the child back home. The child could be fabricating the story as far as the officer knows. If there IS proof the officer needs to look into and doesn't, then there may be some issues.. but they don't have to start a full out investigation of interviewing witnesses just because the 14 year old says something. They may need physical proof such as markings.

unless there were signs of abuse they really can't step in, you would be amazed the children that say they are abused just because they are mad. if she is honestly being hurtshe needs to find someone that can speak on her behalf and have actual proof, this type of thing is very tricky, sad but unfortunately true

It all depends on the situation. What kind of "abuse" are we talking about here? ARe there marks on the body to show where she were hit or beaten? You need to give more details on the abuse, otherwise we can't say.
