Why are people so high on the jets?

They remind me of the bears who went to the superbowl three years ago. They caught alot of breaks and while I don't like to talk luck with sports they were pretty lucky. I don't believe in mark sanchez( Im a USC fan I know he's not a great qb). I beleive the jets will disapoint this year. I'm actually going to go on record and say they don't even make the plaoffs.

Now with that being said I can't wait for all the new York fans to start their smack. I'm not a jets hater I'm just being real

Let me start out by saying Flex is only a "Top Contributor" because he's on here a lot, not because he knows football, in which his case... he doesn't...

Now, to answer your question. I agree with you completely and I've been preaching this all along. It's mainly because of their roster... Yes, they are a great team the majority of the time but that isn't enough. Mark Sanchez had a pretty bad rookie regular season 13 td's 20 int's. I mean that is no QB that will take a team to a playoff win, let alone a Championship.

The Jets were heavily reliant on that excellent run game, if you pay attention to the majority of the Jet's wins, the way they won was making stops on defense and running the ball to milk the clock for all it was worth. Not because of Mark Sanchez.

Which brings me to another point, something people forgot all this time. The Jets barely slipped into the playoffs last season and that is ONLY BECAUSE the Colts rested all of their starters and lost to the Jets and Bills which allowed the Jets into the playoffs. Had the Colts actually kept all their starters in they would have beat the Jets no doubt. I don't care how good Revis is, he is not better than Manning and Peyton Manning was on a ridiculous OMFG hot streak...

I agree with you also on the Jets no making the playoffs this year... I think Mark Sanchez will have a sophmore slump and the Jets will be pondering their next season by the end of Week 17 of the 2010 season.

Though they did get lucky that the Colts rested Peyton Manning when they did, they dominated the Bengals when they had all their starters in week 17 and beat them handily in the playoffs. That was also by far the biggest break they had this season, and the only significant one. For example, in week 8 they held the entire Dolphins offense to 104 yards while gaining over 300 themselves, but lost because Ted Ginn returned two kicks for touchdowns. I'd hesitate to call it luck, but it is a break and a fluke.

Mark Sanchez may not be a great QB, but he has some great tools and when he was able to get into a rhythm he was very accurate and poised, and he did play well in the playoffs. Obviously he had his problems, like throwing 20 interceptions, but 11 of those 20 picks came in just three games, so that's 9 picks in 12 starts. If you expect much more from a rookie QB that started less than 15 games in college you have a LOT to learn about the NFL. I hope I don't come off as condescending, but if you think that guys like Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco come along all the time you're mistaken (and both of them were 4 year starters in college).

He also doesn't need to be Drew Brees or Peyton Manning or even Phillip Rivers or Matt Shaub. The Jets have a great offensive line so he'll be protected and the running game should be at the very least effective. He also has three wide receivers that could be a #1 on many teams and a potential matchup nightmare in Dustin Keller, so he has the weapons and is in a position to succeed.

I at least hope that by your Chicago Bears comparison you acknowledge that the Jets do have a Super Bowl caliber defense. Though they do have some age problems on the defensive line Rex Ryan has proven that his schemes alone are good enough to generate a pass rush, and it's not like Bart Scott, David Harris, Calvin Pace, Kris Jenkins, Shaun Ellis and Jason Taylor are complete scrubs. With three cornerbacks able to man up on any given receiver the Jets will have so much freedom with their blitz packages.

I probably come off as a huge Jets homer, but I hope you believe me when I tell you that though I've always loved the Jets I've never had much, if any, faith in them. They have a helluva lot to prove, but more than enough talent is there, and you don't win 2 playoff games and be 30 minutes away from the Super Bowl by pure luck.

I'm not a Jets fan. Actually I'm a Colts fan and I'd have to disagree with you on that. The Jets have a great defense. That's what wins them games. And they have an offense that is improving. For Sanchez to do that good as a rookie is incredible. Granted, he didn't do a lot last year, but Ryan did the right thing by sticking by his rookie, giving him playing time, and building him into a good quarterback. That's what develops a quarterback into a good NFL quarterback, game experience.

Here's how I look at how they did:

    1. They beat a good but not great Bengals team twice in a row. Good...but not impressive.

    2. Then go into San Diego and knock off a tough Chargers team that was winning a lot at the end of the season. Impressive.

    3. They go into Indianapolis twice and stand toe to toe with the 14-2 Colts and are just not quite as good as the Colts. They were right on their heels, but just lacked a little on offense to win. Very Impressive.

The Jets were a good to OK team. But Ryan got them fired up and believing in themselves and they played great in the playoffs. That's what helped the 2005 Steelers win, 2006 Colts win, and 2007 Giants win. And that's why I think the Chargers don't win in the playoffs. The talent is there. They just don't get fired up.

The Jets have the talent. If they get their offense a little better they will be a very tough team for any team to beat. And I see their offense getting better. Sanchez will have more experience under his belt and they picked up some good offensive free agents.

Way to be loyal dude but Mark Sanchez shows some promise. Remember he only started 14 games but if he gets experienced in the NFL he's a top flight QB. Rex Ryan isn't an idiot he knew what he wanted in a QB and Mark Sanchez fits that mold he's a QB that can run a bootleg beautifully and can manage a game clock. Anyways they have the top CB tandem in Antonio Cromartie & Revis. They have 4 top line LB's and Gholston hopefully can show up as a DE and they have Ellis back healthy. Let's not forget they got Holmes after he serves his suspension. Shone Greene has the classic running back style and can carry a load with his huge frame. Besides Fanaca the top offensive line in the nfl returns all starters. They look like an old fashioned nfl Superbowl team.

Source(s): FIGHT ON!!! I'm a USC fan too

Basically defense win championships and they have a great according to the analyst. Plus they can ru the ball. IMO however this is a QB driven league. Just look the most of the top rated QB's were in the playoff last year Farve, Rivers, Warner, Rodgers, Brady and arguely the top 2 in the SB in Manning and Brees

Any type of engine can leave a vapor trail under the right conditions. Look at WWII footage of bomber runs, they left vapor trails. If you really want to know which ones they are, you need to get your hands on some charts that show the airways in your area. They are available at local airports or ask any pilot that is doing some IFR flying. Match up the airways to the vapor trails and the ones not on prescribed airways are more then likely military.

they had the best defense last season and will probably continue with that. although their running game may not be as good, shonn greene shows some promise for them. and you guys do realize mark sanchez was a rookie last season right? cut the guy a break. hes already better than some starters in the league. although they probably wont win it this year, i see rex ryan with a SB trophy sometime in the near future.

i see them as a playoff team but losing in the second round they got pretty lucky last year i still think their offense isn't good enuff to win a super bowl Mark Sanchez is overrated they should get a new QB if they picked up Donavan Mcnabb i would say they are a super bowl team

Yeah, I feel you. Sanchez is way too overrated. He just got lucky. Something similar to what happened with Ryan Leaf... Remember him? Me neither, just a vague memory...

I agree the jets did get lucky and i think they're gonna do bad this year.
