Nation Guard after Active Duty and Education Benefits?

My husband is ETSing out of the Army and we have talked about him joining the National Guard after we get back home. We have been told that if he does doing he can get the tuition assistance along with the GI Bill and use both while in school. Does anyone know if this is true and how it would work if it is? I can't see that happening but you just never know how some of these things work anymore.

Update:

He will be using the Post 9/11 GI Bill so does the school just get over paid and cut a check every month or semester or whatever? I'm just curious on how they would work together. Right now the more money we can get the better. We have a 5 year old and twins on the way.

Update 2:

He has 6 years in active duty Army.

I served four years active duty and two years reserve in the marines. At this present moment I am going to college in Illinois, I have a G.I Bill, a post 911, as well as free tuition which is offered to enlisted members of the armed forces in Illinois, i think the army offers the same thing. But the way it works is my school is completely being paid for because I'm a veteran and my post 911 and G.I bill i get as a stipend pay every month. I don't think your husband as to re-enlist as a national guard. If he has his G.I Bill his fine and almost every state has a program for veterans for free tuition in their respective state ( call your nearest army recruiter to get a directory of all colleges and universities that are working together with the VA. Also if your husband was an active duty enlistee after 911 he qualifies for the post 911 bill and depends on how long he was in the service they will give him a percentage that he can use together with the GI bill as well as tuition assistance. Like I said the only thing that will happened is that he will receive his GI bIll and post 911 as a stipend pay every month

True story, the GI Bill is from his first enlistment, the tuition assistance is just something the National Guard provides while he is in the National Guard.

Potentially the new Post 9-11 GI Bill you don't even need the National Guard: if enrolled in 12 credit hours (full time student) they give you the BAH for E5 for the area. Sick deal, eh?

i don't think the p.c. fairly concerns. What you will possibly be able to desire to attain is how the preserve/reserves set up. The nationwide safeguard deploys as a unit and is definitely deployed first pondering it takes an at of a senator to mobilize them. interior the Reserves, they are in a position to decide for you out of your unitl and deliver you with an more suitable unit in a fullyyt super state. i'm from ND and was an engineer. We obtained proficient as finance to go with a Utah unit foreign places. As a techniques as tutorial reward...each are the equivalent. They each have GI bill, pupil loan compensation, and business enterprise help. The era of provider for each is the equivalent...6 years No ameliorations in pay. the main precious substitute might desire to be the bonus which you purely might desire to get for turning out to be a member of. additionally, the GI bill kicker will probable be super too and pupil loan compensation. ensure which you purely sign up on the magnificent time to get probable the main funds. I joined the army reserves pondering they had bigger educatin reward on the time, regardless of if now they're the equivalent. One great substitute is investment. nationwide preserve is state funded and gets a lot of modern equipment. regardless of if, the reserves is federally funded and does not get lots funds for kind spanking new equipment. seems backwards... I comprehend. that's lots extra convenient to go up in rank in the reserves than in the national preserve. wish that's helping.
