I didn't store my riding lawn mower right and now its blowing clouds of white smoke and not running right.?
What can I do to get it running right again? The power seems to be low also, doesn't want to drive up the hill, stalls easily. I think the fuel is used up now from last year, but maybe its already been damaged? IDK. It was left outside under a tarp during the winter. I now have a shed and a nice place to store it, can I save this machine? My grass is getting high and the thing won't stay on long enough to mow or the neighbors call the fire station thinking my house is on fire when I start it up. Thanks for any help you can be! I know I did everything wrong, but I had no place indoors to store it last season!

I would check the oil level as you may have overfilled it and will cause it to run sluggish as too much oil. This would cause white smoke as is oil burning not gas as gas is black smoke.I would do first things first. Change the oil ,drain gas and put in fresh gas with a little carb cleaner, Clean carb air filter and let run to see if it clears up. Hope this helps.

White smoke is an idication that it is burning oil, it isn't a fuel problem..
The question is where is it getting the oil from. It could be a fouled air filter. If the air filter is plugged, the engine will pull oil through the breather and then into the engine causing the smoke. This is an easy fix, just clean the air filter.
It could also be a bad piston, if the piston is worn, exess oil could be making it into the cylinder causing the smoke. No real fix for this as you would need a new engine, and it would be cheaper to just buy a new mower.
Did you by chance tip it on the side? This would have alowed oil to spill directly fom the oil resivor into the engine. Thought the smoke would have disapeared in a few mintues if this was the case.
My best guess however is a blown head gasket... this will probably require a trip to a lawn mower repair shop to fix. It can be done at home, if you have fairly basic mechanical skills and a torque wrench. If not, you are looking at about a $100 repair bill.

If it was running fine before you stored it, if just might probably be a gummed carburetor having gas siting in it while stored. If you are handy, take the carb apart and clean it.

I had a push lawn mower and the oil was screwed up. Even after I changed the oil and stuff, it still puffed white smoke and it wouldn't go uphill neither. It would stall. I brought it to a motor place and they said that the mower was shot so I'm assuming that is the same thing with you.

Change the oil and clean the carburetor.
