Foul smell coming from toilet?

My children's upstairs toilet has a foul smell coming from it. It almost smells like a mouse died in the wall or something. The smell gets worse when you flush the toilet. Does anyone have a clue as to what is causing this? Would it be the ring/seal? The house is only a year old and both girls tend to sleep downstairs in the extra bedroom most nights so the bathroom doesn't even get a lot of use. Any constructive help would be appreciated.

It's not unheard of for a mouse to get into the tank, drown, and then get "flushed" down into the water-distribution channels. These passages let water through (around the edge of the bowl and through various other ducts), but are generally too small to let an intact mouse body through.

If that's the problem, you might get lucky and be able to lift the flapper valve at the bottom of the tank and use tongs or a small hook to retrieve it, if that's what's down there. If it's further down and out of view or inaccessible, you might need to remove the toilet tank. If it's still inaccessible, you might need to take the toilet outside, invert it, and try back-flushing whatever is in there out by using a garden hose and some creative tricks. If that fails, and the smell goes away from inside with the toilet outside, then a new toilet may be the only sure way of fixing the problem.

Make sure someone didn't sneak some food and hide it somewhere, maybe in a drawer or under something. Maybe you can get the kids to find it for you. Just pretending, Let them over hear you talking to another grown up and Say; I don't know what we're gonna do when the plumber gets here, He will probably have to tear out the kids room to find the problem, It could take weeks and the only place I know for them to stay until they are done is at that crummy old hotel down the road, People get killed there once in a while, but they are kids, I don't think they will bother them. Just only if I could get rid of that smell! That will tell them to look really hard for anything stinking. It's OK! Just keep their imagination going. Do some acting and have fun. Pretend to be serious.
