Laptop local area network has limited or no connectivity error message!?
I unplugged my ethernet cable from my desktop & plugged it in my laptop to access the Internet I keep getting error message "This connection has limited or no connectivity" You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources.this problem occurred because the network did not assign a address to the computer. To restart the connection & try to establish full connectivity, "click" REPAIR. (Renewing your IP address) Clicking repair does not restore connectivity to computer but another error message appears saying, Windows could not finish the problem because the following action cannot be completed (Renewing your IP address) When I unplug the ethernet cable from the laptop & put it back in the desktop the Internet is restored.

#1 are you sure the connection it is reffering to is the one you are trying to use. #2 you have tried different cables, hold both ends of the cable up in the same orientation...are they exactly the same as far as the order of the colors goes? #3 DO both devices the laptop and the other device show a link light when both ends are plugged in, do both lights go out when you disconnect one end.. #4 what do you mean by Internet ports? A hub a switch, make model. #5 check to see what the parameters are set for the network card...as far as duplex and speed. Auto some times does not work between specific devices...even reputable very expensive equipment. #6 It has nothing to do with IP address from you ISP or otherwise, completely different error messages, symtoms and network layer. This is a MAC/PHY layer problem, meaning you are dead in the water using IP, IPX Netbeui or otherwise until you solve the lower level problem of Physical connectivity. Please report back on a few of these Thanks

I also had this problem. I suppose that you use the desktop and your laptop in the same house. You have to buy : an Ethernet Switch and two cables in order to link the switch to the desktop and to the laptop. You plug the switch. You put the ethernet cable in the first plot of the switch. In the next one you plug the cable which goes to the desktop. And in the next one you plug the cable which goes to the laptop. In this way you have access to the Internet both on the desktop and on the laptop in the same time. I hope I helped you and that I explained as clearly as possible. If you have any problem with this, send me a mail to this id.
