What do you think of this definition of faith?

"Faith is love taking the form of aspiration." Wm. Channing

Update:

Larry, aspiration is not something done to a pimple. It is a desire you would put effort forth to realize.

Love being a divine state of beneficence.

The logic comes from this, an aspiration accomplished without harm with pure motives. I actually do not see how an orange applies.

But I accept your point for the platitudes in general and statistically you are right most of the time.

Logically however love does substantially reduce the possibilities so it quite relevant.

    I don't get it.

This idea of hell assumes a God that is not even smart enough to organize a simple educational field excursion and get all of the student home safely.

    How likely is that?

The idea that God was not smart enough to have come up with a plan to get everyone back home safely 100% of the time is just a simple lack of faith.

Trust that the real God had this figured out long before any of us ever got here. That is what real faith looks like.

Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for the evident demonstration of realities though not

beheld. 2 For by means of this the men of old times had witness borne to them. 3 By faith we perceive that the systems of things were put in order by God's word, so that what is beheld has come to be out of things that do not appear.

This is what faith really is.

Not much. It's a basically meaningless phrase. There is no link between faith, love, and aspiration.

Plug in any old noun in place of "Faith" and you still get a somewhat charming saw.

"Solitude is love taking the form of aspiration."

"Inspiration is love taking the form of aspiration."

"Orange juice is love taking the form of aspiration."

"The bogey man is love taking the form of aspiration."

"War is love taking the form of aspiration."

Faith is all that is needed for otherwise good people to stop searching for the truth.
