A Few Questions About Guinea Pigs?

I just got a guinea pig yesterday after doing some research for about a month. We have a cage, water bottle, food dish, bedding, the guinea pig food, and various veggies. The pig is about a month old. People have said to get a little hiding spot for them but it is also linked to solitude. These are some of the questions I still have about them:

1. Can they eat too much?

2. How much of what do I feed them? -- Do I leave the guinea pig food out all day, and just refill it when its empty, or just a certain amount per meal per day (I'm feeding two meals a day). Also, for the vegetables & fruit.. is there a certain amount to feed, and is that a once a day thing, or all day long?

3. I know that guinea pigs will eat their soft fece pellets, but is it normal for her to poop in her food dish? The dish is a little large for her, she can fit completely in it, so does she think of it as a hiding spot, or a bed of some sort?

4. Is there any way of getting her to calm down as I'm getting her out of the cage? I don't come at her aggressively, or above her (because she's prey). She's completely fine once out of the cage, but while in the process of getting her out she runs around the cage.

If you actually read all this, I really appreciate. Thanks ahead of time!

Guinea pigs need a hiding place. They are prey animals and its their instinct to hide when scared.

    They will not over eat.

Give them an unlimited supply of a grass hay. 1/8 cup of pellets every day. At least 1 cup of veggies every day. Here's a veggies chart

Its normal for them to poop in their food dish. My piggies do that.

here are a couple links on how to make her more calm and how to catch her with out her freaking out

And you should get another female guinea pig. Guinea pigs do better in pairs and she will be happier.

    1. Guinea pigs do tend to eat alot

    2. i leave my guinea pig food out all day but what you want to do with two meals a day is also ok......always have hay out for them. Fruits like strawberries and apples should be more of a treat about once or twice a week. Guinea pigs do need lots of vitamin c so you should give them vegetables 2-3 times a week.

3.If you dont have a hiding spot for her already you should get one.

4.Its normal for a guinea pig to do this.....My guinea pig still does this

ok first off, leave the food out all day. You need to get them timothy hay if you havent already. Give them an unlimited supply of tha and refell the pellet food every time its empty. Dont worry about them overeating. You do need to get a hiding spot. It wont lead to solitude. They need it because they get scared SOOO easily and you dont want them to have a mini heart attack(im not even joking). They need about a cup of veggies everyday. You can give it to them in increments instead of all at once if you want. My guinea pig used to accidently poo in the bowl but to fix that we got a rabbit feeder that hangs on the side of the cage. it helped, you cant really do anything about that though other than getting a new type of feeder or a smaller bowl. As for calming her down, just pick her up regularly. Let her settle down first, dont pick her up right now. Since you just got her, just put your hand in the cage so she can get familiar with it. In about 3 days or when you think she has warmed up to you, then you can pick her up. I think that covers all of it. If you have any other questions put it in the details and i will answer it soon, hope i helped and good luck!

You sound particularly excited to be getting your guinea pigs :) The cage will likely be particularly excellent for the gp's, however be certain that the gaps within the cage are beautiful small. They are identified to check out and squeeze their means by way of matters, and might get injured if the correct style of fabric isn't used to create the cage. As for the little apartment you made, it sounds excellent, however be certain that the field has no ink printing on it, or some other damaging matters that might harm your gp if eaten. Cardboard is high-quality. My gp adored having little cardboard residences :) And final. As for the gp buddy. I propose that you just get 2 gp's from the equal situation. Somewhere that they have got already had time to regulate to 1 a further. Otherwise, they might grow to be being competitive with one a further. One will attempt to come to be dominant, and so they might grow to be hurting one a further, as a typical intuition. Of path, they are going to do that obviously it doesn't matter what, however could almost always be adequate if they're already tailored to being across the different gp. I could additionally propose double checking with the location that you just get the gp's from. I'm certain they could realize precisely what the exceptional pair could be :) Or probably you might even get a constant gp after which have a female and male, if thats viable? :)
