how to get rid of flies? (many pet home)?

This summer seems to be especially bad with the flies. We put up fly paper, but it isnt putting a dent in our fly population in the house. we have a bird, rabbit, dog, tortoise, fish, and a toddler. is there another safe method to help get rid of flies? the house is failry clean, average mess for a house with a toddler, but would it help if i took the trash out daily and washed all the dishes daily? last year we had flies too, but the fly paper took care of most of them, so im at a loss what to do? any suggestions would be great.

thanks!

Update:

we live in an apartment and all the tennants are complaning about the flies. i think some of the window screens have holes in them. and we open the doors a lot because dog likes to go outside. they arent HORRIBLE or infested, they just really bug me. like there is 1 in the bedroom, but hes driving me crazy at night. they like the diaper genie area, no surprise, thats why i asked if i take the diapers out daily of that will help the situation. but i know i have some deep cleaning to do. they seem to be living in the garbage disposal (that doesnt work, and landlord wont remove) but with my cleaning i gotta be careful of the pets/baby.

well, there's this thing that catches the flies. not sure of the name thought, but it definatly should help, if you dont want to use pesticides and such. I think its called "the fly zapper". u just turn it on at night, and it draws attention to the flies, and any flying insects actualy, and "tzzzzzzt" zapps them.

    hope that helps

search for its images if you want to go to your local supermarket and want to get something similar, but it shouldnt be much different than this

You really need to do some hard core cleaning. There is obviously something attracting the flys, they don't just magically appear. Unless you leave your doors open 24/7 they are growing in filth.

I don't want to hurt your feelings, but if your house is infested with flies, it is not fairly clean.

Clean up, take out the trash, clean up the poo poo in the house (look around, you will find it) mop the floor.

If nothing else, you got a kid. They shouldn't be in a house full of bugs.
