  • 2 tests, which to believe?

I took 2 pregnancy tests today. The first was an equate (wal mart) with blue dye, taken after about 3 hours of "holding it" and got a faint blue positive. Not sure if it was real or not, held my bladder for another 2 hours and took an internet cheepie pink dye and got a negative. I remember from the past that blue dye tests sometimes have bleed through. But, in your opinion, which do you think I should believe?

AF isnt due till Sunday. I plan on retesting then, if not sooner, lol. Just want opinions on blue dye tests vs pink.

  • training a hunting dog- questions BEFORE we get one?

My husband is a hunter and we are planning on getting a hunting dog within the next 2 years. I have never had a big dog, so I'm not sure what to expect. I want to adopt a rescue dog. There is a local group for pointers that I think is fantastic. He says rescue dogs come with problems and that they are too old to train properly. So my questions are...

    1. Can an adult dog, say 2-3 years old, be properly trained to hunt?

    2. Do all rescue dogs come with baggage, and can it be fixed with time?

    3. Is it better to get a pup from a breeder that specifically trains gun dogs?

I am all for adoption, but dont know about training a gun dog. My husband says the first 8-12 weeks in the dogs life makes the big decision if it will be a good hunting dog. The rescue group did tell me they know some of thier dogs are gun shy (afraid of the noise) and that others dont like the outdoors. They said we can take one hunting and see how it does, but would an untrained dog know what to do? How would I know if it will be a good hunter.

If anyone is a hunter and has this kind of experience I'd love to hear from you.

    Thanks!

  • how to get rid of flies? (many pet home)?

This summer seems to be especially bad with the flies. We put up fly paper, but it isnt putting a dent in our fly population in the house. we have a bird, rabbit, dog, tortoise, fish, and a toddler. is there another safe method to help get rid of flies? the house is failry clean, average mess for a house with a toddler, but would it help if i took the trash out daily and washed all the dishes daily? last year we had flies too, but the fly paper took care of most of them, so im at a loss what to do? any suggestions would be great.

  • Pregnant, Dr vs Midwife vs Doula question?

I am in pregnancy week 10 and have some decisions to make. This is my 3rd pregnancy, hopefully living baby 2.

The pregnancy books talk about picking a doctor, midwife, or doula. (yes, i know the difference) So i was seriously considering a midwife for a home birth. baby 1 was great, no problems. baby 2 miscarried at 10 weeks, from my family doctor giving me birth control at 10 weeks pregnant and NOT testing me for pregnancy. So i have no worries about this baby. so far everything is going good.

    so my questions.

    1. how do you find a midwife? is that in the phonebook? (i live in small town Iowa so any options are limited)

    2. will medicaid pay for a doula or am i stuck with a state financed lousy doctor? (keep in mind, they assigned me the same doctor that caused my miscarriage, so i dont trust him)

    3. if i pay out of pocket (not like i can afford it, but lets pretend) how much does a midwife cost compared to a doctor and hospital? my miscarriage totaled about 8,000 in the end. and my daughter's delivery fee was over 2,000 (i never saw any other bills though, and insurance payd for that)

so pretty much, im a broke navy veteran using my GI bill to get through college with my husband (also a veteran in college) trying to find the best solution to me needing a birthing plan. any advice on how to lower the doctor bills? is a home birth less expensive?

    thanks for your time!

  • starting up a tank part 2, sorry more questions?

i posted earlier today about my "new" tank.

I took the plants out, scrubbed the sides (which came clean with no chemicals) added the water and the water conditioner.

it weighed too much for me to dump, so i added to the 3 inches of water (and rocks) but stirred up a lot of dirt junk. i turned the filter on. will that filter out the dirt? can i stir the rocks before i put things in it to get all the dirt out? thanks in advance.

im also looking through several disorganized book stacks trying to find our fish for dummies book.

thanks for the help! also, any advice i need to know about tanks in general? i know about picking out fishies and checking their compatabilities, but the tank itself anything i should know before i get over excited?

    thanks!

  • starting up a fish tank, im new to this need help please?

hello. my husband has a 25 gal fish tank. he used to take nice care of it, but gave up. all the fish slowly died and now it has about 3 inches of water and a few sad plants. i want to add more water to it, clean it up, and make it less of an eye sore.

    1. we have the chemicals, but how do i add the water? like, just put water in a bucket and add the drops and straight to the tank, or does it need to season/sit?

    2. how long after adding the water (like 22/25 gal) do i need to wait before i get fish? (i havent picked a type yet)

    3. if i need to clean the inside with the algae scrubby do i do that before i add more water or after? which is less likely to kill the plants.

thanks if you have any advice for me. i want to take charge of the tank so it looks less ugly in the living room.

  • diet pill questions, is this how they "work"?

So now that Im pregnant I'm cleaning out my medicine cabinet. I look at all the things I cant take, and the things that will expire soon (within a year) and toss them.

As I get to my "weight loss section" I realize something. They all gave me diarrhea. Is that how they work? about day 4 of taking something I get the runs, decide that's not worth it, and stop.

I toss the Stacker, Acai pills, Zantrax 3 (or whatever it is called), Slim Quick, and so many others.

Im not sad at my "loss" and know those things don't work anyway. But is that a normal reaction to all diet pills. is that supposed to happen, or am i just unlucky?

thanks for reading and feeding my cuorosity.

  • Does anyone else hate it when...?

    1. No one, or only 1 person answers your question. Makes me waste 10 points, and I feel ignored.

    2. You put your heart and soul into an answer. you give dates and details. you tell a story. your answer is thoughtful and thorough. and you dont get best answer? instead they pick the person that said what they wanted to hear.

maybe i will only answer using the following, "yes/no"

"see a Doctor" and "me too"

10 points to whomever vents with me and feels the same.

feel free to rant about how i am not a human pregnancy test (HPT), and i am not your doctor, and those symptoms can be anything. ugh.

  • horseback riding while pregnant?

    Any horse lovers out there?

I am a Junior in College, I decided to change my major to Equine. I love horses. After I started the papers to change schools I got a BFP, so Im about 4 weeks now. Today I saw my counselor. She does know I am pregnant. We altered my schedule so I am not taking any of the dangerous classes, like the one where they teach you to ride.

There is one class I question. It involves working with young colts. I think its teaching them to be handeled and wear a bridle and stuff. My counselor thinks this should be fine for me, since the horses will be my size.

this is my third pregnancy, hopefully second baby, so Im no fool to whats going to happen to my body. But I havent spent any time with colts. Should I be worried about one kicking me? I can wait to take the class, but really would like to take it if it is safe.

Also, the classes I cant take we are going to schedule for the spring after ive had baby. but, im due around christmas and classes start up around mid january. can i really ride a horse that soon? will it hurt my crotch sitting on a saddle? or will i probably be ok? with my first child, i only had superficial tears, and hope for this to be the same.

thanks for answering if you know anything about colts.

  • yes, it is a baby shower question. second baby, shower or no?

This is my third pregnancy, but I had a miscarriage last time. I am only 4 weeks, and havent told my family and friends because of the fear of another. so i have months and months to think still.

with my first, i had a 4D ultrasound for my shower. i dont have a lot of firends, so it was an intimate gathering with my family, and my husband's female relatives. it was small but wonderful.

I am thinking about this pregnancy. For my little girl, i was living with my family (I had just got out of the military) but now I am 5 hours away. The MIL is 3 hours, so is the step MIL. all 3 grandmas are opposite directions. I dont know how I feel about another shower. I dont have friends here, but would like to do something similar to last time.

My sister in law is 22 weeks now. Her mom offered to do her baby shower, she declined. I saw how it made everyone feel that she doesnt want us in "her pregnancy" and i dont want to do that.

My mom is in Indianapolis, MIL is in Kansas City MO, and step MIL is in Sioux City. I live, um, in a corn field, an hour and a half north of Des Moines. So to do the ultrasound I would have to drive 1.5 hours each way.

Is there some compromise I am missing? I dont want my mom to drive 5 hours each way to only have a shower that lasts an hour. And who do I ask to plan it? I was at home last time, but my mom had me do the planning and she paid the bill. this time I dont want to plan anything. I'd prefer the MIL to do it, and she would be glad to, but then my mom would have a 3 hour drive and the MIL wouldnt. i dont want to hurt my mom's feelings about it either.

im so confused. i know i have a long time to think about it, but its on my mind today. any opinions for me? or is there something else fun we can do for a shower? sitting around playing silly traditional games isnt my style, and i only have family to invite, about 5 people max.

  • OPK pics for the curious, some questions answered?

For starters thanks for checking this out, I hate losing 10 points for posting. I have seen many questions in TTC about OPKs. So I uploaded my pics from this month. But the last 3 months were the same for me.

    http://s794.photobucket.com/albums/yy223/teresahai...

If you continue using an OPK after your surge you are liekly to get confusing results. As you can see from my example, sometimes the surge line likes to hang out for a while.

this month i did conceive, so i also added HPT pics. the online ones were great for testing all the time. saved me money over the months. they did show positive, but not till after first response did. i got a positive really early from the .com tests, but since it was negative for many days after i had to assume it was a water line.

i also included my 4 week pregnancy pic. i packed on about 10 pounds at easter, so my gut is a little oversized here. oh well, stuck with it for now.

i hope you all enjoyed my pics. and i hope that clears up any questions about using OPKs after you ovulate. feel free to leave comments or ask questions!

  • is it too late to lose weight?

kinda silly question, since deep down i know the answer. but i'll be more specific. before the BFP i put on about 10 pounds. i over ate the easter candy, my fault, thinking i could work it off over a few months. then the BFP. so im not adding to my workout plan, and im not dieting. with previous pregnancies i got hit with the morning sickness and lost a few pounds (about 10) during the first trimester. but overall i am still lighter by 30 pounds then back then. so who here thinks after morning sickness sets in i can drop that 10 pounds? also, when the doc asks my prepregnancy weight do i say the weight i was for the last 5 months prior or do i have to add the easter weight? if i use my average then my "weight gain to date" is about 10-12 pounds. im so confused. i know, when you get pregnant weight goes out the window, but it is something i am aware of. i guess what i am thinking is if i can finish the trimester without adding more then i will start the second about where i should be, +10. but is that realistic and healthy? or is that easter bunny stuck to my butt for another 9 months?

  • My first OB appt at 6 wks, question about doppler?

i have my first OB appointment scheduled for 6 weeks. Its with my family practicioner. I asked the nurse what to expect and she explained it very well. She did mention the doctor would use the doppler to check for a heart beat. From personal experience, do you think at 6 weeks pregnant I will be able to hear the heart? They wanted me to come in now, 4 weeks, but I felt like they were rushing it. My last OB/GYN didn't see patients till week 8. Is this a little early? thank you.

  • Pregnant and Tylenol recall, what can i take now?

I think I am pregnant. I got a BFP today, very faint. Still a week before AF, so still a chance it might not stick. Anyway, I used up the last of my Tylenol supply. I sent my husband to get more, and he said Wal Mart had a recall notice on it, and there was none at the store of any brand. He brought home Aleve. I know better than to take that pregnant. But what else can I take for minor aches and pains of daily life? I don't get to see an OB for another 5 weeks or so. I'm trying to wean myself off pills, but do like tylenol. Any suggestions of how to get through this recall?
