My first OB appt at 6 wks, question about doppler?

i have my first OB appointment scheduled for 6 weeks. Its with my family practicioner. I asked the nurse what to expect and she explained it very well. She did mention the doctor would use the doppler to check for a heart beat. From personal experience, do you think at 6 weeks pregnant I will be able to hear the heart? They wanted me to come in now, 4 weeks, but I felt like they were rushing it. My last OB/GYN didn't see patients till week 8. Is this a little early? thank you.

Update:

thanks everyone for input. i am not expecting to hear anything, but its nice to see there might be a chance. i wont be sad if we dont hear anything. i think its a little early too, but im not the doctor. :)

I'm surprised they would even attempt to hear the heartbeat that early. Good way to freak a patient out when they don't hear it (which they most likely won't). My doctor wouldn't even try to hear my baby's heartbeat at 8 weeks as she said the chances of her hearing it that early are slim. She won't check for it until 12 weeks.

I don't know why they'd even try with a doppler this early on. Most OBs wait until after the 10 week mark because doing it sooner could result in unnecessary worry. With my first my OB couldn't find the hearbeat even at 10 weeks so I had to have an ultrasound. With this one they had to do a vaginal ultrasound at 6w2d because I was so early on.

Personally, unless you are worried about things or are experiencing miscarriage symptoms, I'd have them hold off the doppler. You may not hear the heartbeat despite having a healthy baby in there and it'll cause you unnecessary worry.

Chances are pretty slim that you will hear a heart beat at 6 weeks. Is actually surprising that they will even try. I didn't get to hear my little one until I was 12 weeks. I had my first ultrasound at my first visit and I was 6 weeks 1 day.

4 weeks is extremely early. My OB didn't see me until I was 10 weeks. Even then, he didn't try to use the doppler. They didn't hear the heartbeat on me until 16 weeks. I have a lot of abdominal padding *wink* and they said it was unusual not to hear it. They could see it on their machine, but it wasn't loud enough to come through the speaker. Don't be disappointed if you don't hear, you probably won't.

4 weeks is pretty early but you should be able to hear it at 6 weeks. I heard my daughters at 6 weeks and my son's at 7.

Its not something they stick in you. they only positioned a situation it is kinda like a stethoscope yet specific to take heed to the toddler's heartbeat on your abdomen with some gel. i wish it is clever. sturdy success and congrats!
