Best flea control for dogs?
Frontline Plus just isn't working with my 10 year old weimaraner Liberty. She hasn't had a allergic reaction to any pest control she has ever had. Does anybody here have experience with Frontline Plus, K9 Advantix, Program, or the new product out there called Comfortis.
I heard Program doesn't kill adult fleas but makes their eggs sterile. Should i use it with Frontline Plus? Ive heard Comfortis has some serious effects on healthy active dogs, but them again i heard it works wonders. Can somebody help us out please?

Many owners are finding that Frontline no longer seems to be effective on fleas. (I have heard this complaints on dog discussion boards all over the USA.) I think because it was so widely used, the fleas have "adapted" to be able to withstand or tolerate Frontline.
Vets are now recommending you ROTATE your flea products, to help prevent that. BUT do NOT ever combine or over-lap products without talking to your vet. You can end up with a toxic situation, esp if you use 2 or more products at a time, or apply one before another has run its course. (Just because it is not working, doesn't mean your dog can tolerate 2 flea products at once.)
We had the same problem with Frontline, and switched sucessfully to Advantix. I see that while Co

No because even if you split it you will give them the wrong amounts of flea control. It is meant for 89-132 pound dogs, so it has just enough medicine in it to take fleas away. If you put it on your 5 pound dog, it may get sick because there is too much medicine in it. Even if you saved yourself 30 dollars, you will make up for it when your dog gets fleas from not enough flea control. Good Luck

Okay we use to have a horrible flea problem , but we gave our dogs a pill from the vetinarian to kill them and it did work! We had tried everything , like frontline, but nothing seemed to work. Until we took the dogs to the vet and they gave us a pill. The next day dead fleas were falling off!! The price is about $15.00 if you love ur dogs then u are investing in something that is worth while!~~

Just came across this and I wanted to add that our dog is on Advantage II. Just found 3 fleas on his belly. Great. Stay away from this product.

We've used Comfortis for 2 years and LOVE it. The dog thinks it's tasty and within 30 minutes you can see dead fleas falling off the dog. I wish they'd had this years ago for my other poor flea infested dogs.
The only real problem with Comfortis is the expense. The pills are about $10 a month and you NEED to get them from the vet.

I find Revolution the most effective. Many fleas only kill adults and eggs, Revolution kills adults, fleas, and larvae.
Have you been treating your house? Treating the pet is only so effective, as eggs are falling off and hatching in the environment.

Make sure you treat the house and yard as well as the dog. I use front line but my dog has very sensitive skin and he is allergic to everything so I do not like to use it regularly. I had my yard treated, and treated the house then I got him a bed with cedar and lined the back yard with cedar bark. Flees hate cedar and they are no longer a problem. We only use the front line when we go camping in the early spring to ward off ticks. The rest of the year the cedar and the occasional bath work for us.

I don't believe in systemic flea killers . My dog is flea free and just wears a flea collar.
