This is absolutely the most unanswerable question I think I've ever read. How can you define what the "greatest scholar" is? I mean how do you even begin to evaluate such a thing? I think many will say Isaac Newton or William Shakespeare, but they are just two of literally millions of candidates.

It is a difficult question to answer. In my opinion,, scholar should exclude poets like William Shakespeare and scientists like Newton. It should only refer to persons who were well read and made contribution to the progress of the community. In this definition, I would say, Adi Sankaracharya, the founder of the Advaita Philosophy and in more recent times Swamy Vivekananda will qualify.

well besides me, i think carl sagan had the best grasp on how to see ourselves and the world around us. he had a great way of explaining mind-bending subjects so even the youngest person could grasp the idea.
