Honestly, the best one for a kid is the NIV(New International Version). They don't have "Kids edited" versions, but they do have really good ones for kids that have notes to the side that help them understand what they're reading. Look for a kids-teen study Bible, NIV so its easier for him to read.

    Good News Bible.

At 8yo, an illustrated Bible is about the best you can do. He is not going to understand hermeneutics, typology or anything in regards to exegetical commentary.

Let him come to see and understand the STORIES.

They are not going any deeper than this anyway.

there is only one bible: the REAL bible. when u say age-appropriate, presumably ur looking for one of those that deceive kids by cutting out all the goods parts. that is the height of hypocrisy.

It's got far to much violence and sexual content for an eight year old. What the heck are you thinking?

Why don't you buy him a book he can use that could possibly contribute to the world, like a book on biology

Probably one that leaves out the old testament and revelations.

    Those are insanely evil books.
