How to get rust stains out of stainless steel sink?
So I have a stainless steel sink and to protect it, I put in a mat. I dumped soda in the sink and it got caught underneath the mat and I didn't rinse and now there are stains. I don't no what it is but it looks like rust. The sink is brand new and I don't want to have those stains there. Any product that will get rid of it or a home remedy? Thank you in advance!

Rust is scientifically called oxidation, which occurs when oxygen comes in long-term contact with certain metals. Over time, the oxygen combines with the metal at an atomic level, forming a new compound called an oxide and weakening the bonds of the metal itself. If the base metal is iron or steel, the resulting rust is properly called iron oxide. Rusting is the common term for corrosion of iron and its alloys. There are ways to remove such irritating rusts in our stainless steel sinks by applying vinegar or lemon juice, but for stubborn rust apply more and scrub the rusted areas with a scrub pad or about 80 grit sand papers. The 80 grit sand paper method will work. But here’s more, water treatment for rust-Rust Out, Lime-A-way and Rust Rooter. These commercial products will help you in eliminating rusts in your stainless steel sink.

Bar Keeper's Friend is a great product for SS sinks. Let it sit a little bit, then use a nylon scrubbie (I like Dobie). (Bar Tender's Friend?) Find it in the store, alongside Bon Ami and Comet. Good luck!

Do Not use anything abrasives. You will have problems forever if you do. That will ruin the finish. BarKeeper's Friend has been a life saver for me for the cheap sink that was put into my place. Was shocked that it made my sink almost look new again.
