Computer Virus...Please Help?

Hi Guys & Gals

I have turned my computer on today and it won't let me access my internet, saying I have a virus somewhere.

I'm not very computer literate so please bear with me:)

Basically as I go to the internet button my computer tells me I have a virus and I need to buy AV protection.

I thought as a buyer I would have a choice so got a bit wary...

I have AVG protection on my computer and have for years without a problem.

Please can someone advise me as to what to do....Thank you:)

Step #1. Restart, and before the computer logo comes on( dell, hp, or whatever ur computer is) PRESS F 8 A COUPLE OF TIMES-- a black screen with white lettering will appear. with ur u and down arrows, select SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING)

the computer should look weird as it starts up in safe mode( don't worry/its all fine)

Step #2. Download Malware-bytes from: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ ( the free one)

Here are the instructions after you download it:

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. At the end, be sure a check-mark is placed

    next to the following:

    Update Malware-bytes’ Anti-Malware

    Launch Malware-bytes’ Anti-Malware

    Then click Finish.

If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.

Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

    Step# 3 Download AVAST from :http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Anti%E2%80%A6

On the lest side, click DOWNLOAD NOW

Follow the same steps from Malware-bytes( it will be a bit different since it is a different program, but the essentials are the same: install AVAST, run scan, check found results, and remove them)

After this, restart your computer, and everything should be back to normal. ( these are my instructions) However, if you want more, you can always go here for even more detailed info.

Do not download more then necessary. One of the biggest myths and mistakes made by people in general, is thinking that the more anti virus programs you have installed on your computer the better it is.THAT IS A MISTAKE AND A MYTH. The reason for that is because anti virus programs counteract and overwrite each other, thus errors in removing viruses.

One ativirus an one anti malware, is more then enough.

Yes, malware-bytes, it is not only for malware/spyware, BUT ALSO for viruses. It

Since you do not have access to the internet, I suggest that you get on another computer to download Spybot Search & Destroy or Malwarebytes. Put the install file (that is compatible with your OS), on some sort of flash drive or disc so you can transfer it to your computer. After doing so, install and run it. Save the results to a notepad document. Then you will have to go on Geeks 2 Go and post the results so they can guide you step by step to fix your computer. Spybot, Malwarebytes and Geeks 2 Go are 100% free. Geeks 2 Go will guide you through the process of removing the virus. Do EVERYTHING they tell you to do EXACTLY how they tell you to do it. Unfortunately, this may take some time if you do not have another computer where you are located.

The other alternative is to download another anti-virus like Avast! and run a scan in safe mode. (You will have to use another computer for this, like I suggested above.) If you can not get rid of the virus yourself you will have to use system restore if you have it turned on.

If that were to fail, you will have to format your drive with your OS disc. (Formatting is re-installing a new version of your OS onto your computer, wiping the older one off the drive.) Make sure that you save everything that is important to a disc or flash drive.

Running a scan in safe mode:

On startup, hit the F8 key repeatedly. Once you get to the screen that gives you your options, select Run Windows in Safe Mode. Run your anti-virus.

Restoring your computer to an earlier date:

Start > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

    * I suggest getting a better anti-virus. AVG does not have the ability to find half as much as Avast! does. I have been using Avast! for the past few years. No virus get's past Avast!, the second a virus enters my system, Avast! detects it. It is also a free anti-virus program.

    Good luck!

Sounds like spyware. Don;t click on any links that popup, as the infection will only get worse. You need this program.

    http://malwarebytes.org/

Run quick scan first, after that the computer will ask to restart itself, then run full scan. The quick scan should only take about 12 minutes or less, while the full scan should be no more then two hours.

Now if this does not resolve the problem or if you are not able to download the removal program, then you are likely infected with a nasty worm virus. In which case you'll have to reinstall windows.

I think it's one of those Fake Antivirus viruses, You know that bottom thing on your computer where start is...well right click it (Not start but the bottom bar) and select task manager. Then it shows the running programs right now. Then if you see like av09 or some fake antivirus end the program and click end now. Then quickly go on google and search malware bytes and download the free version. After that install it then run a full scan.

You have a AVG free edition and when he detects a virus he won't let you turn internet and asks you to buy their software to delete the virus.

    Options:

1.Buy AVG software and clean the virus

2.Find other free anti-virus software and start virus cleaning.I recommend you to use "Avast" This is great free antivirus software and it's free.

I hope you will delete this virus soon. Regards!

Boot your computer in safe mode. Press F8 repeatedly while the computer turns on, then when the list shows, use the arrow keys and select safe mode and press enter. Now run a virus scan on AVG and it should remove it.
