Misuse of charity money??!?
My sister is raising money for the "three day walk for the cure" which is raising money for breast cancer. She is buying things with the money that I do not think is appropriate such as really expensive shoes that she justifies because they're "for" the walk! Is she out of line or should I keep my mouth shut?

Well, in a sense that is a bit out of place, as it serves to defeat the whole "benevolent" aspect of the charity event. It would have been appropriate had your sister made only minute expenditures with her money. However, buying expensive shoes is a tad out of line and I would mention something to her, atleast in a friendly and sincere way. Hope this helps you :)

Always a chance of a virus in those links so I won't open it, but yes to your answer. Even charities like red nose day even had problems last year with people on the take. I have been put off by all charities now, I only donate to ones who I personally know now.

She's committing fraud and there are very stiff penalties. The people who donate the money do so expecting that it will go directly to the organization to fund its services, etc. Using it for her personal gain--which is exactly what she's doing--is highly illegal. If she needs special shoes to do the walk, those items are often tax deductible to her as charitable donations, like if she volunteered at a hospital and had to purchase a uniform, etc. It's supposed to be out of the goodness of her heart. She obviously doesn't have one and is only doing this for show.
You should stand up to her and tell her that if she doesn't reimburse the funds, you will contact the Komen Foundation and tell them what she's doing. They certainly have come across this before, and have a variety of approaches to deal with it and the offenders.

I myself am participating in Toronto, Ontario's Weekend to End Women's Cancers walk and fundraising for it, and ALL the money that I collect for fundraising goes to the Walk, not to me or anything I need for fundraising, etc.
For example, we are handing out pink ribbons - my sisters and I are buying those from our own pockets. I too have to buy new shoes, but I'll be paying out of my own pocket - yes, technically I am buying them because of the Walk, but I will be using them after the walk as well, so the money should come out of my pocket.
She is committing a fraud buying things for fundraising out of the fundraising money. Those that donated to her do have the right to know because I am sure they donated the money expecting all of their donation to go towards the Walk.

Yeah she's out of line, there can even be legal repercussions for false advertising (or something like that) for lying about raising money for charity.

Out of line... under the law, it constitutes as stealing if that money does not go to the intended charity

She is not raising money for charity, she is conning people, and if her activities become known may involve the police

Yes, she is out of line. She's stealing money that people gave in good faith as a donation for a good cause.

You are TOTALLY right and NO, you should not keep quiet.
Don't people know not to make donations in cash or at the very least to ask for a receipt?
Wow. Just wow.

she could take money out of her own wallet to get shoes which she could just use her regular sneakers instead. so yes it is out of line.
